After pure isolation in an uncharted reef, we were ready to sail back into civilization. Woozy kava ceremonies, mischievous thieves and late nights with good...

when a local hands you a hand-drawn map
of a semi mysterious place in the middle
of the ocean you go right in our last
sailing journal we ventured to beverage
reef an enormous submerged volcano in
the middle of the Pacific we navigated
through the uncharted reef to find the
clearest water we had ever seen and we
don't want a fishing vessel hmm that
didn't navigate the dangerous waters as
successfully after spending time in such
isolation we were ready to mix and
mingle in the Kingdom of Tonga of course
no passage would be complete without a
few hiccups as we turned on our engine
to navigate the wind block tight
channels of the vivo group we realized
it was once again down for the count
but what doesn't kill you makes you
stronger and by now we've gotten pretty
strong at anchoring under sail

the calm of our first night in Tonga
helped us ease right in but company was
what we wanted and company we did get
some time Dena's putting on a little
show but I'm just looking at it because
that this guy totally duped me I feel
like such a sucker he knocked on the
boat this morning it's very early as
8:00 in the morning and he just kind of
lingered around I was like oh you're how
like so sorry we forgot to do the help
we didn't finish the check yesterday and
so I welcome to my board he goes can
have a costume like sure sure
and he started pulling this out of his
backpack and I was like ah more
paperwork huh and he goes oh no basket
basket on a joke you were health and
immigration yeah
with immigration yeah beef people if I
welcome you on the boat now you're
pulling out all this stuff to try and
stall me okay once the real immigration
was taken care of we ventured into town
to provision see some sights and catch
up with friends for a night of Tongan
culture our first day here I'm so
excited to have found Abel outdoor gym
so we can you know shake off our sea
legs and I'm going to get back to some
kind of normal routine one of the type
of things about being at sea is that
it's kind of hard to get in your groove
sometimes so here is my gym for the day
so excited

you happy with the selection never that
I'd like to address my stress
provisioning being in Tonga I'm making
progress has been like better
this is like fresh fruit and vegetables
everywhere things we make a lot like
tomatoes and on infrastructure
everything you've been coming over every
day how can we keep coming every day
don't just suffer everything at once
oh yeah I come every single day here's
one not myself dude but we're not for
the market - every day they have to be
different oh that's what I was coming up
it's pretty crazy like one bit of
oranges there's no more basil genexus
unhealthy soldiers potatoes some fun -
like what some things like design and
she's always right at these things and
almost from their yard
why not
as local legend has it mounts allow used
to be the tallest mountain in Tonga long
ago mischievous spirits called to Volos
from Samoa became jealous that Tonga
blocked their view of the Pacific during
the night they came to the island and
cut off the top of Mount allow wood the
intention of bringing it back to Samoa
to make their island the tallest in all
the land but scared off by Tonga's own
sassy spirit with a little flash of her
derriere they drop the mountaintop in
the water as they fled the island while
Mount allow is still flat it remains the
most splendid place to see all of Tonga

home of tobu who invited us into her
home to share some tongue and traditions
of us her family taught a host of
visitors local dances allowed us to
participate in our first kava ceremony
and enjoy a feast of delicious
Tongan food

on the water you meet the most
interesting people you might not
otherwise cross paths lived on land
people of all ages all nationalities all
walks of life this is one of the things
we love most about our chosen lifestyle
it is rare though to find people our age
that we get on with and by the time we
made it to Tonga we were lucky enough to
find our game five similar boats
traveling at similar speeds and a
collection of characters to keep us all
entertained Tonga kicked off what would
be an awesome next few months with our
new family on the water now that we had
our tribe we raced out of town to find
an anchorage to call our own we didn't
know exactly where we were going but we
figured is the one with the bluest water
would suffice

underwater caves and have a few dance
party onboard cartago until next time
