Never heard of the Marquesas? Don't worry. Neither had we. But boy were we happy to be there. After 20 days at sea sailing across the Pacific Ocean, we were ...

it took us 20 days to sail 3,000
nautical miles from Mexico to the
Marquesas but we made it never heard of
the Marquesas that's okay neither had we
but man were we excited to be there
after a long and bumpy ride there was
only one thing we had really wanted a
long shower after three weeks you'd be
surprised at how your standards might
change
getting ready to take your very public
way yeah well you see pretty well
covered up now that you smell so fresh
and clean it was time to go to town and
by town I mean a little village to take
care of some official business checking
in the country enjoying a cold beer
getting some fresh food you know that
sort of thing
lucky for us nearly shave and showered
hitchhiking is common practice in Hiva
OA and within minutes we had a ride
about to chug a beer actually it looks
just like the governor so we went to the
ATM say get some money and didn't know
how much francs were so pulled out the
middle option it was 5,000 francs so we
came to the shop to try and get little
idea of how much this is worth and if
you pick any random thing like pick up
some baby powder it's $10 for a thing a
bit better so we're in we're in for
quite a sticker shop I'm pretty sure
5,000 francs or $50 so yeah ten bucks
basically for baby powder this is gonna
be great
well I'm checking out these Gina's got
her
tell us a couple prices you found
so that's $100 that model of champagne
right
I'm not even champagne which is not
unusual because not that to Avenue that
you recognize the car you lost $33
you're gonna okay there's a couple more
fun ones bag of Lay's BBQ chips $7 $14
if you want to go big and get the big 15
ounce bag $14 if you want to go big and
get the big 15 ounce bag at least the
view is free
right here burn laundry it's laundry day
Mexico or you get laundry done for 10
bucks for all this
I'm gonna I'm just some hand washing huh
you don't get a dryer you gotta like
hang it up you gotta bring it down gonna
be a different experience yeah no
definitely I'm very spoiled but pretty
I think detergent cost more than it
probably get laundry done in Mexico yeah
that's probably true and where our
washing facilities okay you mean the
shower showering in rinses
laundry machine so I guess this is a
little introduction to super yachts in
Tahiti and French Polynesia we've got
this see what do you think 300 foot boat
yeah I'm bad with measurements 300 foot
boat
I don't even tell there I've got a team
anchoring a team dropping their 150
horsepower dinghy
and I think just like the rest of us
they're really excited to go take that
shower onshore and check out that spigot
of water a sailor's life isn't always as
romantic as you might think it would be
but after a full day of laundry behind
us
we were finally ready to do some
exploring we rented the 4x4 and took off
with new friends to visit the oldest
archaeological sites member cases we
were advised to hire a guide to the
island especially after a heavy rain
turned the roads into slippery muddy
terrain but we prefer a DIY approach how
hard could it really be
oh wow right there
after a lunch break on the beach
grapefruit and really really fresh
coconuts we were back on the road
Jose made sure the car was ready for the
next leg of our journey for smiling TV
the directions were a little iffy they
want something like this go up the hill
will be a little white time i'ma do it
hardly being able to see it but when we
do and if you do yeah oh there's
something there's something all right so
we thought we were this before
you
get the machinist
it's up there but it's like
and this is what we have come for the
smiling Tiki the smiling tikis weren't
exactly what we thought they'd be but
it's all about the journey not the
destination right well we got back in
the car to check out our necks aight but
not without first saying hello to a
couple of friendly goats we saw on the
way
all the way up here I'm outdoors wanna
know everything I know the rest of our
day was spent collecting a bit more
fruit and visiting the island cemeteries
were famous French artists like Paul
googa and singer Jack Braille were
buried we even managed to score a lesson
in making coconut milk from our new
local funds once they heard stories of
Hosea's coconuts killed they were set on
teaching us the ropes turns out it's
actually pretty easy
to make the best coconut milk ever
next up we head south to snuggle the
blue waters of Tata and hyper waterfall
set to eat for more of our adventures
follow us at taupe sailors dot-com
until next time
