hey guys welcome to another video
related to the erickson restoration
project we've invested another three
days working on the hull to improve the
surface finish this extra effort has to
push the sanding to about nine days a
quick walk around as I just did has
found the hull looking mighty good in my
eyes the paint we've decided to use to
seal below the waterline is a paint
eco-friendly prime 1,004 the bow
antifouling paint we're gonna use their
EP is that o in a what Lisette o in a
name is for zinc o Medina an organic bio
sign which does not persist in the
environment this is better because the
paint will have a smaller impact on our
aquatic ecosystems
hence eco-friendly paint is the only way
to go in my mind well I'll make it to
and from whisper tank again
[Music]
it's a two-and-a-half-hour right that's
like going to Kamloops yes and that's
one tank of gas when you turn around you
put another tank guys well we made it
back on one tank of gas news indeed just
because we went in the van yeah the van
has 40 gallon tank when we fill the van
up which was almost full we have twice
as much fuel as what's in your car okay
on that note of twice as much fuel this
is take six I'm gonna attempt it better
what I just did
plan today is to epoxy prime the hull
with EP 1,000 manufacturer recommends
this primer be used to maximize the
adhesion of any engine cowling paint or
foul release coating on glass aluminum
ruler hulls which makes sense as that's
what primers do EP 1000 is a two-part
epoxy primer that greatly minimizes
water absorption and is an excellent
choice for osmotic blister prevention on
glass walls like the earth compared in
our application we're going to be
working towards achieving a total
barrier protection which will consist of
at least three coats each coat will be
applied with a foam roller at 68 I'm
thinking Mills wet and it's gonna cure
out to about four to five the Erickson
Hall will get a total dry film thickness
of primer that is about 12 to 15 mils in
thickness our minimum repaint on
previous coats at today's blistering 83
degrees Fahrenheit is going to be under
three hours the first coat of
antifouling paint the epz Oh has to be
applied when the primer final primer
coat is about the three hour mark and it
should feel soft to the touch but not
that's gonna be an interesting to
discover because I never felt something
like that so I'm thinking it's gonna be
close to the three-hour mark the first
antifouling code wants to dry overnight
before applying any consecutive coats
therefore this means we're into painting
for the next two days for mixing of the
e prime 1000 which is a two-part epoxy
as I said it's four to one Part A to
Part B and it's by volume I'm so excited
you I can't wait to get started have all
weekend I wanted to do it but I was
sanding so let's mix up some paint and
we'll begin its application oh and my
plan is I want to put just that extra
little bit of protection on the keel and
in the stern by where the prop comes out
so I'll be doing those first so they'll
be four coats there in those areas
anyway away we go Mills what's the
middle one thousandth of an inch
makes a big difference
[Music]
now
[Music]
you smell grandma's
like
the yard the paint well I'm sitting here
at the end of the day this is two coats
of ep 1000 the paint performed exactly
as I was expecting it to man I sure
didn't make any promises that it didn't
live up to the only thing that I was
expecting is maybe a little bit more
whiter but that's okay we'll let this
paint dry overnight and our cure is a
better word for it because it is epoxy
in the morning we will lay down its
final and third coat and then once it's
ready in that sort of plastic e not
tacky anymore state we're gonna drop the
bottom paint onto it the first coat and
let it sit overnight again it's looking
like not two days but three days it's
gonna take me to paint this boat it
doesn't matter it's fine it was so hot
here today it was it was like 38 with
the humidity but I mean 35 other ones
good day and we'll see you tomorrow
we'll see how it goes I I can't tell if
it's soft and gooey but it's non tacky
this is the third coat so I've been
walking around looking at different
things but I guess this is one I'm gonna
just put the antifouling paint on it did
some mixing it looks good it's good and
thick they want to use their magic
thinner to thin it I didn't buy any so
I'm just going to use it in its regular
viscosity levels
yeah that's wait looks mighty weight to
me and you put the roller on there and
all there for a second
well guess what finished our first coat
of the ee8 settle antifouling paint on
the ericsson looks pretty good
it was pretty easy to use wasn't
anything difficult didn't give me any
grief I'd recommend it to anybody I'll
be so pissed off when I drip on the
rudder
here we go
Adams work
well this is too much paint
[Music]
not over you don't know the hack oh so
so me saying hi there guys oh I'd love
to give you a hug isn't working no let
take two of the outro
well we've completed the bottom paint on
the Ericson 27 I'm terribly pleased with
the results this being my first attempt
ever at doing something like this I
guess all the research on the processes
and the materials handling definitely
paid off in these results here here
looking at pinstriping this is the
waterline my son painstakingly laid out
that pinstriping his first time ever
also I'm more than happy with the
results that came out there may be a
couple of Wiggles there but I'm ok with
it it just needs to show me that the
boats not sinking next on this reef at
its back to the deck prepping for paint
maybe gel coat I haven't decided on the
finish yet if you give me some
suggestions on which one I should do
maybe we'll look into it and maybe we'll
go with what you tell me what to do I
said she was gonna look beautiful and
she does now I would like to say thank
