This is the fourth episode of Wattage you eat?... a series that outlines the energy required for different meals that we cook on our sailboat, Harmony as we ...

welcome back to another episode of why
did you eat today we're making spaghetti
but we're starting off with a little bit
of appetizer so first I'm gonna use my
kilowatt meter to measure the wattage is
that the toaster uses for the toast so
first we're gonna reset it I'm gonna
turn the toaster on just a yarn and it
says that it draws four and four three
watts so we're going to measure the
kilowatt hours
[Music]
and after this once when you right over
to boiling some water for the pasta
[Music]
toasters nice toasty feminine this is
over before at 24 kilowatt hours
[Music]
oh boy now one of these days we can
start with already hot water straight
from the tap because we'll have hot
water here so we can engage those energy
appetizers join
so next I'm going to mix bring it up
into the meat and then I'm going to
stuff it with mozzarella you know what a
calorie really is calorie is the amount
of energy it makes one milliliter of
water one degree Celsius there's
actually calories to be converted into
wattage and also be guarded the divorce
power you can take that candy bar see
calories on it know how much energy if
100% of tissues return to the sugars
into such things they say the sugar and
a candy bar is like talking up there in
your car like a long freakin wage
filling a little hungry yourself with
sneakers
travel across Avengers right our water's
boiling point one four kilowatt hours so
I'm gonna drop our pasta in I've put
some oil to keep the pasta from sticking
and a little bit of salt to give it a
little flavor hey see you say you think
would be rude not to show a child of the
ghetto rigged a see we have going right
now we are gonna run this tube under
under the starboard see lazarette I
think they have funny names there's not
seat it's a city and it's not a kitchen
it's a galley it's not a sink it's a
whatever it's not toilet it's a head I
don't need doubles these are Pete and
it's reading 0.26 kilowatt hours so I'm
gonna go ahead and switch over my
skillet as soon as I get these patty DUP
what I've been here is I hide out for a
little sweat Patty and no Stefan um with
mozzarella cheese and then I'm gonna
saute the onions mushrooms and garlic
along with them in the skillet
so the kilowatt meters meeting point for
for three kilowatt hours whoa we're
surpassing some other dinners now at
this point you know broke with the
burner well all I did is make it to the
thermal shut off on that citizen shut
off look at the good thing a bad thing
because now it just stays on permanently
it doesn't actually shut down at all if
you spin it yeah we can plan around it
speaking of which I think I brought
another burner backwards for moms I
thought yeah better be read though
thanks for watching and what did you eat
I hope you enjoyed the spaghetti meal
tip it's total of 480 kilowatt hours no
480 what hours
oh yeah because I didn't think all right
so it's gonna put all right kilowatt
hours or 480
Watteau what I was what are hours oh my
god
I don't know times just times tech made
by human control the man in the sleep
developer man are 400 watt wind turbine
with our 400 what wind turbine if we
have enough win we can make this meal
with just over an hour of collecting
energy yep 35 miles an hour for probably
70 minutes
[Music]
thanks for watching
