so just get ready to leave we're going
too far today it should be about a four
or five day sale we'll even with our
friend Anna and saman over there on
Sheila and we've also got Fabian and
Sebastian on their boat over there but
all even together all going to the same
place that should be good and we're off
so we've left the marina now we've got
our main up we did get our jib out but
we saw on our German friends they got
their jib in because I think they were
overpowered so we're just going around
the island and we think that there's a
bit of a tunnel or acceleration zone
coming
we're settling into our first night now
we both come downstairs we've set alarms
for every half hour we can go up and
check the AIS but everything else we can
see down here we can see wind direction
wind speed which isn't that great at the
minute and we've got our chartplotter
here as we can see the speed and how
much distance we've got got 400 miles
left what you watching
[Music]
nearly 6 knots please do that
that's the other one going
let's be well first do you ever feel
much of this trip because this is
literally the most exciting thing that's
happened to us
it's already
so we are 235 miles from the nearest bit
of land then help us pigeons fly by
reckon I better long day still got a
little fans there very disobedient I set
them up a little home some bread and
water what do they want to do sit there
and all over the deck unbelievable
and see lots of these today turtle just
noticed that the main Hamlet has taped
through a little bit as Ryan's just
wrapping some electrical tape around
there I think we're gonna have to chop
that end off and realized it just bit of
a pain
we've got a pretty rubbish day sailing
today we've had between nothing and five
knots all day actually since last night
about nine o'clock so we've had to run
the engine we are a little bit worried
because we're running out of diesel
we've got 60 litres we think left we've
really run out in Maine but 68 is left
in the Arctic and then we've got 20
meters in a jerrican but we're gonna
have to motor the whole time because
there's no wind we are gonna run out how
many miles you've got left we have
exactly 200 miles left to do and we've
come 200 before
so literally the riddler very well but
we are really excited because it looks
as though there's a bit of a weather
front coming through we're not sure but
if it brings win
we've got a bit of stress over the last
two days because there has been
absolutely no wind and we left with 100
liters of fuel commitment to have good
winds and we've got like 20 litres of
fuel left and we're still 180 miles
and the shipping is giving a lot heavier
now we're getting closer to Europe in
Gibraltar so we were starting to get a
little bit worried and didn't know what
to do it's also power we run out of
power
yeah but to generate over the engine and
I went to bed and Fay woke me up
Photography saying we've got 40 knots
never been so happy with you leaked our
bed no we've got full sales up we're
doing seven knots and we might not get
crushed by tanker yes bonus and it's a
beautiful sunset it's not sunset sunrise
yet yeah
sorry I haven't slept a long time how's
your watch going Fay been busy yeah well
sir what's the wind and our speed you
enjoying yourself
I think pops is Ryan how deep is the
water here five thousand eight its Kenya
you can see you actually really clearly
you're tired lines are terrible you just
swam in five kilometres of water
I'm Curtis women I had it yeah all right
yeah so just started my share we are
absolutely tanking along I love it the
feeling of going quick and no engine on
is amazing absolutely buzz in we've got
decent ish winds we've had such crap
weather with the wind for the last I
don't know how long what today's been
really really good as them sunny been
some babe in I've got a hundred miles
left it's hopefully we'll get there
tomorrow afternoon ish I'm still on my
night shift Brian's in bed he's having a
sleep which is good it's gonna take over
for me in about four or five hours of
think it should be very nice so I can
get better sleep the winds died down now
a little bit so we've got on average
about seven knots which is seven knots
of Paran
so our speed is about four and a half
knots which isn't ideal but it's not bad
and I don't want to push the boat too
hard because it's nighttime and I'm
really tired
I'm just making dinner it's a really
late dinner it's about midnight I think
maybe one but when you want passage time
just goes out the window and your body
clock is all completely messed up anyway
say it doesn't nobody matter having
pizzas again stand it
we love a pizza and bought Chelsea so
we've just had a bit of a situation
I was just finished in my shift amber
I'm asleep and suddenly the autopilot
alarms start going off which we've had
problems with deal to pilot before so I
was just thinking our good luck wasn't
me now but it was the rudder so much
tears of rudder so then I sort of
panicked called Ryan huh he came up and
we don't we don't really know what's
wrong but we can't use the autopilot now
also our depth sounder is then we've got
naught point three meters beneath us
Berner mind we're in like 4000 meters of
water so
we don't know what's actually happened
Ron Jenkins check our power and our
power was really really low we would he
said literally we were about to lose all
of our electrics with some of our
systems and we'd say we wouldn't have
had the autopilot anyway but we wouldn't
have had anything Charles
nothing at all plus we don't really have
a lot of diesel and if I DEP sound it
isn't working and we don't have charts
then I've no idea how we negotiate into
a marina or an anchorage or even have
enough diesel to get there in the first
place if there's no wind which we
haven't had a lot of wind so now we put
that generator on so hopefully we can
get a bit of power through that Ryan's
hands Darrin I'm just making him a cup
of tea I'm really hoping I can get some
sleep I can't see that happening and
then yeah hopefully we'll be able to fix
it in the morning and then actually be
able to get to our destination without
any more problems but yeah as always
drama to me
we had a few problems in the night we
lost power and managed to start the
generator
the problem was we've only I lost 20
litres of fuel in the engine
we've got no wind again so we managed to
start a generator for a bit the
autopilot would work and assistance
and now we're having to run the engine
and we're crossing the shipping lanes
for the interest of Gibraltar
entrance going through and we've got
hardly any fuel no wind and I'll just
show you here these are all ships
traveling between 11 and 19 and a half
not that one there is traveling at 19
and a half and these are the lanes we've
got get through a little bit stressed
phase in bed I don't want to wake her up
because I wanted to know what's going on
so don't stress her out too much
fun
where are we Faye I'm we are near
Portugal nearly at the end of our trip
we plot about 20 miles left is it twenty
point five g's might be very bad or they
might be okay we're not sure but
probably just gonna risk it and go down
car and then we can tester and
get new batteries or
yeah I do and where are we go and say
yeah but we have to you know you can't
just I'm going to Portugal where are we
going
near far at paneer we're on our final
approach now we're gonna anchor because
we need to test a few things we're not
sure what's gonna happen we've got about
3 liters of diesel left so we really are
cutting it fine and we've got a bit of a
problem with the batteries we don't know
what they're saying they're 100% but
they're not showing us all of the
different elements of its own we might
have a dodgy battery we're not really
sure but overall it's been quite across
in we're pleased with the sail in has
been some really bad weather in terms of
no wind but it's been nice and sunny
we're finally here taken four days and 7
hours and yeah quite pleased excited to
get there now so we made it and we
learnt how to say it portimão in
portugal is the gorgeous anchorage rip
lefty towns and stunning beaches next
time we'll show you some more when we
take some guests out on Chelsea to visit
the caves
