it's just a little bit after five in the
morning and we're all up early because
we're off to Vancouver to see the
spectacular celebration of light
ladysmith harbour is calm as we head out
so we're expecting a lot of weather look
at that
the colors coming into the sky and we
are gonna have our dawn ladysmith Harbor
has great boating facilities including
four marinas oyster harbor was its
original name back in the coal mining
days town has a beautiful heritage
downtown area and several museums terry
and mark on this beautiful 65-foot
ferrocement catch Christie's joy and she
was a joy for sure Lee ladysmith is a
gateway to some of the best sailing in
the world the Gulf violence and Georgia
Strait our timing was going to be
perfect Gabriel a passage it's really
nice and quiet in here 3com currents in
here can exceed up to 8 knots you can
also get some nasty whirlpools so you
definitely want to take this at the
right time if you haven't gone through
gabriola pass yet here's the 360 degree
for ya isn't it pretty and we were out
we hit the Georgia Street and the wind
picked up like it promised to mark
through a reef in the main just to keep
things safe
there was a gale warning and frankly the
Georgia Street usually does have some
kind of small craft warning this trade
is about 240 kilometers long and berries
and with from 18 to about 55 kilometers
Vancouver it was so cool to come into
Vancouver on a sailboat this is a busy
place actually it's the busiest port in
Canada and the busiest on the west coast
of North America this is also where I
lived in my 20s and we had fun a quick
stop at false creek views to fill er up
and we were ready to start 5 25 litres
6.6 gallons
that round building in the center is
Martello towers and it was home sweet
home for a number of years for three of
us in a one-bedroom apartment and
there's Stanley Park my favorite place
mark dropped the anchor and it was
perfect right behind the raft where the
fireworks were going to be going off
thanks for the spread Terry Cheers it's
really starting to pack up the page look
at that yes there is Sam underneath
those people they were here to check out
the celebration of light live bands kept
them entertained on shore
starting to fill up so no we're like it
was last year right
nope
c-span's Raven is a 92 foot cut that has
an impressive 5,000 horsepower so cool
how they do the water spray the Raven
has full fire fighting capabilities and
it demonstrated that to the crowd
as darkness fell the air crackled with
anticipation
there it was the Honda celebration of
light the celebration is one of
England's largest festivals and it's the
longest running offshore fireworks
competitions in the world we were here
to see the finale and it was the Walt
Disney Company I remember watching the
first one is back in nineteen ninety and
back then it was Benson & Hedges
Symphony a fire over half a million
people had come downtown and they shut
off the streets because I simply
couldn't handle anymore but hey we had
the best seats in the house how sweet is
that
it was a magical night and if you get a
chance to get out there do it on a boat
haha that was truly epic and all the
boats are taken off right away hey once
the fireworks were dead the Blue Bulls
cleared up we have the harbor to
ourselves that's even more magical if
