Episode 4 brings us back to the south of France. The furthest south possible, as we have rendez-vous with several brokers in coastal towns just across the Spanish border. A beautiful region lined with long empty beaches which must be packed with people in the summer. On the agenda were several boats of different styles. We got a happy surprise in the form of a Jeanneau Sun Fizz 40. You'll just have to watch to see where my Winded Voyage takes us.

I'm gonna head south the South of France
0:15
with my brother Stefan to go look at the
0:18
more boats I went back to the South of
0:20
France or some help and high hopes my
0:25
brother was the help and I was soaring
0:27
on hope that a certain boat called in
0:29
the petunia would be my future lady
0:35
we have so far south in France that we
0:38
had to fly to Barcelona and drove two
0:40
hours north to southern France
0:59
our first destination was absurd a
1:01
snowman in a meeting with Marko his deal
1:04
Pelican a charming 34-foot world Voyager
1:08
the owner had made several Atlantic
1:10
passages with his panel team as he
1:12
called them
1:23
so tricky could be forgetting an account
1:26
book it was a charming book and solid
1:28
cruising both will be probably a French
1:32
episode it's just too small for my
1:37
height frame being tall is a real
1:39
problem in the whole world
1:40
but yeah in Italy - at this Yonex
2:10
the cook baked fresh bread every day on
2:14
a transatlantic passage he said it was
2:17
an absolute necessity we then headed up
2:45
the coast to the town of look at and
2:47
just out of curiosity I had decided to
2:49
see a boat that was much too big and
2:51
expensive for me our broker lor cannot
2:53
meet us to see the boat but a young
2:55
shipyard hand named Nikola readily
2:57
approved what we saw really surprised us
3:04
jános son fist forty not only that it
3:07
seemed almost knew it fit the girl is
3:11
perfect a solid build from 1981 powerful
3:15
fifty horsepower Perkins with 4,200
3:18
hours in its clock inside was a new look
3:21
in Bimini top roof Dodger and the
3:24
spinnaker we look for problems and found
3:26
a few but just a few no prom with the
3:29
porthole a bit of rust here balcony
3:31
posed to reattach some water under the
3:34
engine but it's fresh water so a small
3:37
leak from the deck an awful lot about
3:39
for around forty thousand euros
3:41
negotiable
4:15
sai-san phase 40-foot so now we're gonna
4:18
go to the la melena eta is the Evelyn we
4:24
had more votes to see and a meeting with
4:26
every English song just a little further
4:28
up the coast
4:29
ah they showed us a jean OEt Oh almost
4:39
identical design with the Sun Fez except
4:42
for its right square angled cotton
5:07
this girl needed cosmetic attention on
5:10
its deck but it had a brand new engine
5:12
but only six hours on it was good we
5:34
arranged with Herve to see some more
5:35
boats from his listing tonight
5:50
I had a slight hangover that morning
5:53
from the local wine we drank dinner last
5:54
night cold wind quickly remedied this we
5:59
went to see another Sun fizz and it was
6:01
really interesting because we could
6:02
compare Sun fizz and Sun fizz and the
6:06
difference was pretty striking same
6:08
boats same price very different
6:10
condition elevate seemed almost
6:12
embarrassed to show this boat and he had
6:15
some serious issues with seller and his
6:17
price
6:24
then la was really proud to show us in
6:27
the next boat a Beneteau first 42 a
6:30
really popular line of yachts ranging
6:32
from first 18 to 50 tools and still in
6:35
production it crews a racer with a solid
6:38
reputation worldwide it out of here
6:49
the owner worked at the local boat yard
6:52
and really fixed up his boat to extreme
6:54
cruising and comfortable living there
6:56
cat was called come home or cramp on the
6:59
meaning is clear we later talked to
7:02
Seema the owner and he explained how he
7:04
had rigged his boat for he and his
7:06
family's needs
7:07
he also explained why he chose Benneteau
7:10
first mainly for quality construction
7:13
the first is a serious contender for me
7:15
for many reasons but every wanted us to
7:18
see something very different
7:19
Celt
7:30
oh all right
7:33
it's artists get ready it has been
7:37
absolutely clear at sailboats from the
7:39
late seventies to early 90s or the
7:41
best-built the reason is that back then
7:44
raw materials were cheaper so they could
7:46
really pack it in and they made boats to
7:49
last a lifetime
7:50
unlike today where everything is made to
7:52
be disposable this is indeed a different
7:55
boat and also 10 grand more expensive
7:58
the boat had a really good vibe it was
8:01
cool but the Headroom just too small for
8:03
us
8:22
we had one more boat to see the
8:25
Neptunian 33 and this was my choice but
8:28
we were so impressed with the sunset is
8:30
40 that we an start boat broker to see
8:32
it a second time she was kind enough to
8:35
meet us at the boat just after
8:37
commenting on the hospital so we went
8:39
through it again
8:39
and it's superb the owner is a
8:42
professional skipper
8:43
and he'd equipped his girl from Atlanta
8:45
and back the lady is just perfect I
8:49
spoke to him later on the phone and his
8:51
stories and testimonies reassure me the
8:54
boat was going to be my future vessel
9:59
we had to see the Neptune
10:01
so we met per sheet from Brigitte my
10:03
songs she had an interesting story as
10:05
she lived most of her childhood on a
10:07
sailboat in a Caribbean the Neptune was
10:10
everything she'd promised in what I
10:12
wanted
10:29
there was just one thing wrong with it
10:33
its size me and my brother felt like
10:36
Gandalf in a hobbit house the boat was
10:39
so cool so British with great details it
10:43
was like a miniature big boat but for me
10:46
to fit in there would have been like
10:47
trying to fit into Cinderella's glass
10:49
slipper possible just not the right fit
10:58
in French I can speak English Eugene
11:04
alright it's so cool if I was just well
11:16
a little bit disappointed in this
11:19
wonderful boat that's just too small
11:21
like a giant in fact I feel like a giant
11:27
j.r.r tolkien so we drove back across
11:37
the French and Spanish border zipping by
11:39
the huge line of traffic trying to get
11:41
into France just a few days after the
11:44
Paris attacks and we flew back to
11:46
Switzerland really confident we had
11:48
found the vessel for my windowed voyage
