In this episode of Sailing A B Sea we're getting our yacht ship-shaped by clearing out the five topside lockers and getting hooked up with cooking gas, plus ...

So this is the walk I have to take just
to go to the loo every morning. It's
quite pleasant really walking past the
boats having a look at them, checking
out what they've got, see if anything
they've got
would be worthwhile getting or our boat.
Ahh, that's better. So jobs to do today: Looks like the sun's finally getting itself
above those clouds but it's still pretty
hazy over there so jobs to do today:
We've got to try and figure out something with those electrical cables that are
powering the computers at the office.
It's just a mess at the moment. We did
buy some stuff yesterday that I thought
would, well, if it's not used for that it
would be used for something else so I'm
gonna try that out. I've got to change
all of the Aussie plugs that I can into
Spanish plugs. I've got to check out if
we've got any propane for cooking. Got to
find out where to buy second propane
tank. What else we got to do? And maybe
even get up on the deck and start
checking out what's in the lockers
because tools and tool kits and stuff
like that is high on the list of things
to buy as well.
So the gas is kept in this locket here. See if I can open this one-handed.
All right let's have a look see if that's
full or empty. Jose did put a new hose on
and it's not connected and that's probably
because it's empty. So we need to get
this filled and we need to buy a second
one as well. So we're off to get some gas.
It's just up the road which is good and
hopefully they'll sell us a gas bottle
too. I guess at some point we'll give you
guys a tour of this place it's got some
very nice restaurants we've eaten in a
couple of them. It's got a very expensive
ferreteria which is basically a
hardware store. I went in for two
teeny-weeny little light globes - probably
cost you maybe 80 cents Australian if
you bought them in Australia. 9 euros 90
each. So I thought, "mm if I can find a car parts place, I
think I'll be buying a lot of my stuff
from those kind of places." Anyway let's
get into the car...
All righty let's go buy some gas.
Well
that wasn't too bad
17 euros and 80 cents. We've got a shiny
new bottle, but he only had one so it's
going to be Thursday or Friday before he
gets another one delivered, but at least
we've got one and we can start cooking
now, which is great. 'Cause eating out,
as much fun as it is - does tend to get
a bit expensive. And I want a bacon
butty right now. So we'll go home and get
a bacon butty on the go.
Just when I thought everything was going
smoothly, we've got a little problem
there with the hose connection. Now it's
connected to the gas bottle, when it
comes up at an angle and then curves
down. But when I try and close the lid of the
locker the hose - gas hose gets in the
way. So we're going to have to get a
different connection. But that'll do for
now. I'll just leave the lid
open a bit because I'm really hungry for
that bacon sandwich!
Breakfast! Yum! Our first breakfast on
board! Wow, and its cooked! Yeah. Thanks! Bacon butties.
Oh that's yours. Okay...
Oh my god, it's like a real one!
Okay well this is embarrassing
rookie mistake number two, regarding the
gas bottle. I shared the
problem with Aannsha, and she
immediately saw how to fix it. As you can see it's now closed. What I
didn't realize was, this side and that
side are a different height and so if
you put the one that you're actually using
with the fitting on in this chamber then
it fits and the lid closes and you can
store your unattached spare bottle in
there. Aannsha saw the problem
immediately! Problem solved!
Here's the new tea towels that we bought
yesterday hanging up drying and Aannsha
is editing a video.
Hello!
All this shopping required us to hire a
car, so we're in another car. It's a
Citroen. Very French. French boat, French
car. I know. Getting very European.
We are! Today is a day to go shopping for
12 volt fans if we can get them. We're going
to a caravan place because that's all
12 volt stuff as well. Yep. Also we're going to
try and go to some big hardware stores
to get some tools. The list gets big and
small, big and small! I'm going to get two kettles. Oh and two kettles. One electric one for when
we're on shore power and one that you
put on the gas hob that whistles [Baz whistles] so when
we are not on shore power. Yeah there's
going to be a lot of whistling. Yeah. All
right, let's do it! All right!
Well we've
been out shoppin. We've been out for
eight hours! Looking for everything that
we need and we've made a small dent in
the shopping list. So as you can see
we've got everything from tool boxes to
wellies to clean the boat, to lots of
towels and tea towels. We've got some ethnic
bamboo recyclable biodegradable plates
and things. And gosh, we had to buy food
because we haven't been able to do that
but we were able to today because we
hired a car for a week so there you go. So
there is also food in the freezer/fridge
which needed to go in and get really
cold straight away. But here's the rest of
it. We've got mats, we've got something to
check the temperature of the fridge
because at the moment it's freezing
everything. And we've got plugs - we had to get
a set of pans. And
knives. Basically we're having to stock
it with everything that you would need
to stock a new house with. As I say it's
a small dent in the shopping list but
look it's a good it's a good star. At
least we can cook food today! Yeah. So now
we've got decent sized plates so we
won't starve by any means. All right! This
is Aannsha checking out! And we'll give
you another update when we go shopping again!
Smells yummy. It is. It's good. This is our first cooked
meal on board! Yeah!. We got gas, we went shopping, we cooked dinner, we're watching the sunset, we're
in our cockpit. Yeah. And we've got wine!
Yeah! Cheers! Cheers!
Yep.
Yum.
Alright let's go and do the dishes. All
right. Nice to eat with you. See you next time. Mmm...
See - See you next time!
I'll bring these in case it rains. I
don't think it's going to rain, but they'll
get damp anyway.
