In this episode of Sailing A B Sea we depart Kas marina near to the end of May and begin exploring the Turkish coast 2021 style. Our first hop is 40nm from Kas to Gemiler Bay which takes us 7 hours.
A big thank you to Tim @Freedom Family Sailing for the excellent drone footage in this video. Check out their YouTube channel to see what the Kiwi's think of Turkey.

good morning people it is saturday
morning
close to the end of march and
it's a gorgeous day it's also a special
day because we're beginning our
trip up north right now how are we going
pretty good
right we're all shipshape ready to go
kevin good stuff
[Music]
all right we're all shipshape ready to
go captain good stuff you've got your
stripy shirt on again i have them all
yeah nautical so the plan is today that
we're just going to head
up to the island of gemello which is
near carriage aaron
and we're going to stay there for
saturday night and sunday night sunday
because of the
curfew lockdown we can't move sunday and
then
monday we're gonna head into marmaris
good day for it uh probably not gonna be
a lot of wind
but the wind is the thing that's kept us
here for the last
two and a half three weeks this is our
third scheduled departure date each one
has been cancelled due to weather yeah
simple as that we've had 70 knots of
wind in this marina
during one of those weather incidents 70
knots of wind
yes gusts yeah right let's get the
marinara's on the radio because we want
our
line off the bow and uh we'll get this
engine started
and we're on our way
[Music]
[Applause]
this huge beach off our starboard side
is batara beach
and just behind the big sand dune is the
ruins of patara and we visited that
ancient site
when we first visited turkey in the
winter of 2018
to 19. there's a link to that video in
the top corner of the screen right now
it looks like it's not only us that's
taken this weather window
opportunity to get moving we've actually
seen three
monohulls heading the way we've just
come from
and one of them is our friend and
neighbor from cash marina dilli dally
hi yens going the same way as we are is
a catamaran from cash marina
everybody seems to be making their moves
[Applause]
[Music]
do
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
do
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
that's cara jauren that we've been to
before
and we're actually looking to go to an
anchorage around here
general island
[Applause]
not the only people looking for an
anchorage tonight here
heather this is where i painted the
archway that you've got
as a twenty dollar patron cool hey
gemala island and there's evidence of at
least
one byzantine monastery there look
[Music]
we're gonna check out this little bay
here
[Music]
how's that for a view
do you reckon burst i reckon it's
pretty good i'm not expecting any wind
tonight so
at gamila beach restaurant over there
and a few people
looks like they're having a barbecue
well it's saturday isn't it true
we've got to get it all done before they
have to lock up and
pack up and go home and stay in tomorrow
but compared to some countries that's
not a bad deal is it
time arrival 17 30. thank you
beautiful that
my dears is a 360
degree view of where we are anchored
[Music]
now this guy's chose to find he's going
to try and get in here now
okay well well he can do a line of
showroom
take a lot of this shot he can go
swimming yeah swimming line ashore
water temperature i would guess probably
somewhere around about
16 maybe if you're lucky that's celsius
a bit chilly yeah yeah
cheers cheers not a bad first day
no a little bit longer than expected
yeah now
yes we're here
yeah okay we've got a boat just about to
run into our side so that's pretty good
nice place
yeah you know i like about boat life
bears
no i don't have to wear makeup and i can
wear old clothes because nobody can see
me
this is a thing
except you except you it's sunday
morning
it's about uh coming up to 10 30. it's
dead calm dead flat here we're at
gammala
island um just off the turkish coast
six hours seven hours north of cash
and we stopped here yesterday and last
night our plan was to go and visit
gimella island
and we woke up this morning tootled
around
and i took i'm feeling
lazy i think is the word i i really
don't want to get the
dinghy off the bow put the painters on
gather all the cameras together put them
in the dry bag
change into hiking clothes we're going
to have to row all the way over to the
island
because we're not taking the engine off
the mount because we'd have to get it
back on the mount because tomorrow we're
going to marmaris
and the we can't there's a lot of things
and i just thought
i just don't feel like it and we have to
go to marmaris tomorrow because on
tuesday is a big win coming in
so the thing is we've made an executive
decision and
this is a stop that we will make on our
way back down the coast
definitely as a staging post for our
final hop
into cash so the water will be warmer
then
and we can get ourselves with the line
ashore then
who's doing the lighting shop you are
and we'll actually do a line of short
directly to gamma island
and then we can go and explore the
island itself today
we're just going to sit in the cockpit
and do some editing and you're going to
do some
painting i bought some new watercolors
and i want to play with them today so
but not until
i've done what i need to do with the
editing so yeah
so that's our plan for today yeah so
we're not really being lazy and i think
i think you beat yourself up when you
think you're being lazy don't you i do
yeah but then again we've been working
quite a lot
yeah um to actually get the boat out of
the marina and
be here yeah the last two or three days
were really quite full-on
full so yeah so
so you know like this is one of the
reasons why
we chose this lifestyle is so that we
can actively relax
when we're not you know working so
today's one of those days
yeah so we will bring you gemella and
the
ruins and everything but next time give
me something to look forward to
yeah today is the 28th of march 2021
and we are officially marking the
opening of the summertime office
for our turkey tour 2021
next week on sailing abc we up anchor at
gaemila bay and head north west to
marmaris
the 45 nautical mile journey was
expected to take nine hours
but we made it in eight and then we have
some fun reversing
abc down the very narrow fairways to our
berth
