In this episode of Sailing A B Sea we continue our three day mad dash to Kas ready for a full lock down in Turkey.
We were enjoying exploring the Turkish coast when we found out that a full lock down was imminent in Turkey so we decided to make a mad dash to Kas, our home base, and sit things out in the comfort of the marina.

boy if we got something to tell you we
just had a
bit of excitement again so much so we
didn't actually film it at the time
[Music]
i'm barry i'm anchor this is the
continuing journey of sailing abc
5 40 a.m on wednesday morning
and that is the full moon just about to
go down behind the hills
here at kenidos in turkey i'm not sure
if this camera will pick it up but the
anchorage got
kind of busy after we dropped our hook
over there is the
restaurant jetty with the one boat that
was on when we came in
this was the other bloke that was
anchoring just as we came in
this guy here snuck in sometime after
dark
these guys came in just after we did
and this big handset came in just after
we did
and so did this one now our accent point
is over there with the green
and red flashing lights are our anchor
is
somewhere over there and
we're going to have to go that way pick
up the anchor
maneuver past these two and exit
so we'll get the boat ready hopefully
we'll get a bit more light
by the time we're ready to up the anchor
[Music]
[Applause]
okay
[Applause]
well that's our first hour of this 10
hour trip to marmaris from kenidos
done so we need another nine tenths to
go
it is the second morning of our mad dash
back to cash there's a palpable feeling
specifically on board abc there's a
feeling of great urgency
and obviously around us we can see quite
a lot of other boats
that normally wouldn't be moving at this
time of day all heading in the similar
sort of direction
getting back to their home base before
this lockdown now the lockdown is
meant to be three weeks but uh
rumors around that it could last four to
six weeks and if that happens
then you don't want to be stuck out here
somewhere you want to be in your home
base
hence why we're going back to cash been
in communication with quite a few of our
patrons
and um they're all wishing us well and
safe journey back and hope you make it
on time
and but a couple in particular there's
uh lisa and rob
brugerman they have gullets i believe in
maris and uh they're here working on
that gullet and they they simply won't
be able to get the work done because
uh nobody's allowed to work apart from
essential services like medical
and food and so on there's also bruce
steele gray
he is south african and uh
he and his wife were gonna come over for
a three week sale
out of mark maurice into the go check
area and maybe even down to cash
that's being cancelled because even
though south africa has
very low numbers they still have to
quarantine
when they arrive in turkey for two weeks
which would negate the whole point of
having a three-week holiday
so these are the sort of things in real
time in real life that are affecting
people with all these
rules and regulations that are shutting
things down we of course
uh are hoping to get back to
cash by the time well just in time for
the shutdown which will be thursday at
1900 hours that's our
estimated time of arrival back at cash
marina
big fellow just overtaken us here he's
heading somewhere probably palmeris i
would guess
and um so far
everything's looking good that we're
going to get there on time it's going a
bit faster than us i wonder if he'd give
us a toe
hi mate it's a toe
he's towing a boat already what's
another little one on the end eh
it's just after 9 00 a.m and we are
approaching the
northern tip of the greek island of simi
now we've had a bit of a rethink and
we've got the calculator
out and we figured out that we do have
more than enough fuel on board to get to
cash without stopping at marmaris for a
refuel
that has significantly changed our plan
a bit
so what we're going to do is we're going
to cross the northern tip of semi we're
going to go down the east coast of
sydney
then 10 further east and go back into
bosnica
where we will overnight anchor because
the distance from
bozo carla down to cash in hours
is exactly the same as the distance from
marmaris to cash
but now that we don't need to go to
monroe's refuel we don't need to go to
marmarus which is actually
taking us further away from where we
want to be
so that's a new plan we'll still be in
cash around about the same time so
we're still looking at a 13-hour run
from bossicale to cash
tomorrow unless i can figure out
somewhere else that we can get
maybe closer to fettier or that general
area
which will depend on how well we get on
with our travels today
uh given the daylight hours that we've
got remaining for us
it's a very fluid situation as you can
probably guess so that's the northern
tip of simi
all that behind there is turkey
[Music]
up there and around the corner is dacha
and somewhere up there is the sun
which is kind of like playing hide and
seek at the moment
and still we have bugger all wind but
we're not doing too bad on the iron sail
at 6.5 knots
that speed is why things are quite fluid
at the moment
here's the northern tip of simi thatcher
up there
all of turkey all of turkey and further
down here
around the corner is positive we'll
update you
when there's more to update
[Music]
well that was an interesting little ride
coming down the east coast of
simi uh we reached 8.3 knots of speed
over ground which
is pretty good considering our hot speed
is nine knots so until i spoke to you
we've been having a chat with a couple
of other sailors
uh in particular mike and elaine they
are in margaret at the moment and
they're thinking of doing an overnight
back down to cash one of the things that
uh seems to be cropping up as a
common theme is the fact that during
this lockdown this
three-week lockdown that could be four
to six weeks lockdown
there will be no alcohol sales available
so uh one or two people are going oh my
god it's my surprise
it's a hell of a lot of supplies for
four to six weeks
that's okay for us because we're gonna
give our lives a rest don't we we're
gonna go dry
yeah why not and it's kind of enforced
drivers again
all right so um we are about uh just
under an hour away from mozakali we're
gonna try and get onto the restaurant
jetty
if they'll let us come side that'll be
great because we've got our dinghy slung
from the davids
and coming stern too with that thing
there it's just not a dope thing
if not we like it
[Music]
thirty
[Music]
a bit of deja vu going on here isn't
there yeah at least we got it
in straight away and we knew where we
were coming and
yeah we were anchored in bazooka we went
to the first restaurant
no one's tied up there and nobody showed
any signs of coming out to say hey we'll
take your lines yeah it looked very
empty actually
did look kind of closed down so who
knows what's going on there
uh second restaurant jetty uh same sort
of thing we've got some swell coming
into the bay
and we know what happens with swell when
we go to the second restaurant jetty
uh two little kids came out waving the
flags down thinking uh
you don't want to send two little kids
out to grab boat lines because
you know it's a lot of weight for two
little kids
anyhoozle we've come down to the head of
the bay where the
third restaurant jetty is there loading
supplies from the dock
into all the now completed dock into the
restaurants
uh and we're anchored pretty much in the
same spot we were anchored the last time
we were here
so coming up to one o'clock in the
afternoon we'll stay here tonight
and then make an early start uh
for our 13-hour run to cash yeah it was
a bit um
the wind it was kind of it did
everything really
yeah i mean at one point we got um 8.3
knots of speed yeah so the wind was
fantastic that was just the head sail
out
yes um then we got into a bit of lee
and the wind just dropped away so we put
the head sail away
so at one point the wind's coming from
here
then put the sail away and the wind
starts coming from there
and then we move a little bit further on
and it starts coming from there
that's just the wind around this part of
the world you know the med
so many um land masses that probably
just get in the way you know the islands
and the hills and mountains here
probably just makes all that difference
we've got a lot of open
water to cross tomorrow so if there is
some wind i haven't checked the forecast
yet hopefully we can get out and
the wind will be in the right direction
for us and it will be constant
it would be nice to have actually 13
hours of constant wind wouldn't it
from one direction yeah yeah that would
be a bloody miracle in the mediterranean
anywho's hello
not me mate um so we're going to uh
put the boat to bed i'm so
it's time to put the boat to bed and
pack up and then i've finished my
editing i've got to edit the
video that should have been out on
tuesday for the patrons so i'll get that
edited this afternoon and we'll get that
out to
you guys and girls who are patrons um
early this evening yeah uh we might have
to hoist the
dungle up the mouse though because there
isn't any reception here it's pretty
poor yeah
things you gotta do eh all right
we'll see you in the morning 6 am don't
forget set your alarm clock
get your coffee machines going yeah was
it what was that um
the tease mate get your teeth made time
that's got to be an english thing isn't
it
i'll turn it off then shall i yeah okay
it was an experience wasn't it it was so
because it all happened really quickly
we didn't film it but hopefully you will
be
seeing some of this footage of the other
boat being tied up
just an hour ago we were having uh 25
knot winds blowing straight into the bay
and it was quite a bit of fetch building
up
so we've moved from our anchorage
position over to the
restaurant jetty here we've come side
too because obviously our
dinghy hanging from the davits precludes
us coming stern to and actually getting
off the boat
luckily at this time of the year it's
quite quiet so the thing is
we're not really taking up a lot more
space than is necessary
there's plenty more room on the jetty
should other boats come in
in the next few daylight hours remaining
oh look at that took his tea
i thought that turkey's delight wouldn't
you
oh gosh so actually it's quite um
interesting that
this is our last night out in the wild
so to speak before we go back to cash
marina
and the thing is um when we do get to
cash
we're in for three weeks locked down and
no restaurants are open it'll be
literally alcohol walking from the boat
to the supermarket back to the boat cook
food live life on the boat in the marina
that's
it yeah so um the guys here say that the
the restaurant is open
yeah and i can see lots of booze on
their shelf in the bar
so tonight we're right we dine but
tomorrow we ride to york
cash no close
but no cigar i still don't get it
landlord morale but tonight we ride to
york
okay or cash or cats
well that's tomorrow but tonight we're
going to go over there we're going to
eat and we're going to drink yeah and
we're going to be merry
before our three week lock down yeah
which won't happen till we get to cash
which will be a 13-hour passage tomorrow
[Music]
yeah this is me drinking tea don't see
that very often no
i've seen you drink tea more in turkey
than i've ever seen in the rest of our
lives together yep
it's a thing i know biscuits dunking in
either because normally the only time he
would drink tea
would be when he had a really raging
hangover and then he'd come up to me and
go
can i have some of your tea so i would
pour out some of my tea
and he would get digestive biscuits and
he'd
dunk it in or he dunked them into my tea
and then the bottom of my mug would be
full of sludge
but here he just drinks it if i had
biscuits i'd be dunking
i'm going to complain to the management
don't you
dare so rude
oh look things got a bit fraught though
we were a bit tense and we were a bit
touchy so with each other so it's
probably good that we didn't film
[Applause]
but you know that's kind of sometimes
what happens on a boat
you live together you work together you
play together and sometimes
you rub up against each other not in a
tango kind of way and then you just have
to let it go
because life's too short and the boat's
too small to hold on to a grudge
i think i'll stop there now
it's time for some food it's a drink
and an early night before an early
morning on a mad dash back to cash
the sun is going down nature is pouring
more red wine
and our uh plate has just arrived
so we're going to take it to that the
wind is still bouncing around left right
and center
hopefully it should calm down by the
time we're ready for bed we're having an
early night
yes because we got a really early
morning start
but this looks really good last time we
came it tasted really good so
i can't wait all right let's
do it dig in and just like that
we've got to change your location
we're at the same venue different
location the wind is picking up once
again
it's um really howling through i would
say that's probably about 25 knots
easy and we will set out
on the edge enjoying the view which i'm
sure
when it happens is pretty but um
the wind was just howling and we lost
our lettuce and we didn't want to lose
our mind
yummy main course
i'm having lamb chops that's sadly
[Music]
these chips are really hot and crispy so
we've landed on a different planet
and this is the surface it's a bubbling
cauldron of hot something
it looks yummy it doesn't it looks like
caramel doesn't smell like chocolate
if you know what this is write it in the
comments below
if you know how to cook it yeah that'd
be awesome
i think you need something really sturdy
yeah it smells good oh it does yeah
kind of
[Music]
you will yeah
oh it's like butter and sugar
[Laughter]
right i'm putting the camera down now
bye
um there's not a lot left there so
what's the story
it's yummy and it's called hot haliva
and it's a traditional turkish
dessert it's absolutely yummy it's like
caramelized
it's caramelised got tahini in it and
butter and
sugar and all the stuff that makes it
taste nuts wow
just keep eating it yum
just be careful you don't burn your
mouth because you will
even if i've told you you will burn your
mouth you will
