departing the brookes for beaver reef
we've reminded ourselves of taking the
time to explore the Anchorage's we
stopped at is key to filling her joy
bank it was a very light winter day and
we'd set the sails in the hope of the
breeze to take us out to the reef but in
the end we filled the head sail to stop
it flogging you normally feel the law
and Paulson sort of neither we typically
put up 30 to 50 meters of line when
trawling and check it now and then to
see if we've picked up weed or a fish
[Music]
it's the widen cut fish fish
let's go over there
[Music]
David Genet we're hunting for fish were
hunting for fish
radhiya hey good morning
so yeah we took off about
maybe an hour ago there's no breeze
which is actually what we want to come
out to the reef and we are heading for
be very Beanery it's got a white sandy
kay there and Taylor ethnic store has
got a white sandy pay also and I'm
really hoping to get on it
a laser bout on it had this thought of
it being in a sort of a 50s movie with a
beach umbrella lazing out in the K in
the middle of nowhere
that's my plan we'll see how it goes
I've been hunting these caves all the
way up the coast so I'm trying to pull
this one off although we don't have a
beach umbrella so yeah we won't get that
shot
anyway it's a glorious day as you can
see blue skies so this is where we were
headed
beaver wreaths and I was pretty excited
to spot it from a few miles out
crystal-clear water and a white sandy
cave we weaved our way quietly through
the bommies to a sandy patch anchored up
and soon went ashore we were amazed by
the amount of sea birds out there it was
quite a thing beaver kay can be found
just offshore from Mission Beach in Far
North Queensland with coral gardens and
walls as deep as 22 meters it was a
superb place to explore unfortunately we
lost a dive camera to Neptune but I can
assure you shark le is one to put on the
bucket list playing about in these
crystal-clear waters was so relaxing we
couldn't get enough of it it felt as if
we were on a summer holiday and we
lapped up the sunshine playing like
children in this beautiful environment
we really hope that you can put yourself
in this picture
[Music]
after a couple of days of adventure and
discovery we set sail one afternoon for
our next stop of the brook islands the
breeze was going to be fairly light so
we decided to dust off the spinnaker and
give it a run the things you can hide
they're all essential pieces on the boat
though
so we're just getting a spinnaker out
gonna have to spinning around this after
day
[Music]
it's like oh that [ __ ]
[Music]
not really
that cuz other moments on my project
like this to split this natural so it's
still comfortable to sleep on but at all
SIA is easy to excess forward stuff have
time to over lockers animators banks
anyways the top the list
[Music]
typically one of us will haul the sock
up the halyard while the other prepares
the lines and shapes in the cockpit the
sock is then pulled up to let the
spinnaker fly free
[Music]
okay so the trick with running this
spinnaker is win that love edge so I'm
up near the bar and that's the front
edge of the spinnaker and win that edge
love when you see it
flapping like this that's when you cheat
on so you haul in on your sheet line
just very gently it stood up the game of
of tweaking movements when you're
running a spinnaker so you haul in until
that edge it'll sort of fold and then
when it comes out nice and straight
that's when you know it's flying at its
best and then you gently watch it and
you gently ease the sheet line out just
until it's nothing just a tiny bit and
that's when you'll get a really nice
round
all right down went around with me
spinnaker so it's fun to watch I'll just
see if I can show you hopefully Darren's
running the sheet line for me
[Music]
on my to work at whether it's in the
wrong places
that's the boats plate picks up picks up
let's go in the right way and if it's
not put it back to where it was it's
pretty easy
with the day of blowing nicely it was
time to do some exercise and enjoy the
late afternoon sale
I always find it very hard to leave
those amazing places I wanted to stay
out therefore I could just live out
there on one of those coral caves just
the sand was so fine and like silica it
was just so it was was like being on a
beach in the middle of the ocean oh it
isn't a beach in the middle of the ocean
it's just so special it's just so rare
that you come by these occurrences you
know and we've had a few though on the
Queensland Coast it is pretty cool
wasn't that bad
oh yeah a little general so yeah it was
just that was just heaven it was just
heaven and I I vote for staying longer
we can't think there's I want some
coconuts
so we're going to a coconut Island to
gather some coconuts yeah I can't be
with any coconuts okay bloke can't be
without his coconuts let's try my
honeymoon so yes if you can get yourself
out to a coral cay or a Sankei highly
recommend it
we just felt like we were in our own
magical little heaven yeah it's
certainly a place for you in the mouth
what the blood pressure come down a bit
yeah
magic pretty good wasn't it why do I
have to say when we jumped off the boat
for that swimmer but later on the the
tide was coming back in again and it was
fair ripping the current wasn't it
because we were only in about three
meters deep of water at that stage and
yeah so I think just filling in so much
and so quickly that was
yeah that was quite the current and if
we weren't good swimmers you could find
yourself a long way away from your boat
yeah yeah luckily we heard the tender hi
hanging off the back and yeah good one
to throw a knotted line out the back
just to make sure that you've got
something to grab onto in such a
scenario is that ya weren't it beautiful
though
so now we're havin it awesome down with
sail - Brooke Island Corp Island thanks
bye honey and yeah we'll probably get in
there a bit late and tomorrow do a
little bit of a coconut ocean radio my
luck
on with our chill-out sail is pretty
good it's pretty lovely
they'd not Safari I'm making five and a
half knots yeah what's that
[Music]
so yes I'm starting to feel stronger now
after my grape juice fast and I've been
building up on fruits for a week and
then vegetables so now eating lots of
nice sort of yummy green vegetables and
that's the way of building back up again
after having done such a long well yeah
I guess it is such a long bars has been
six months of just raw fruit and veg
the grape juice had a thoroughly good
clean-out and yeah feeling really good
so we just had to keep doing our
exercises and taking my good hubs and
all this well and so under the glow of a
beautiful sunset we snuck the spinnaker
and fit the heady for a night sail into
our anchorage well good morning we came
in last night around about 7:30 in the
evening and drop anchor here at the
Brooks lovely calm Anchorage and working
this morning there is a bit of haze
around there must be some smoke a fire
on land somewhere causing all the smoke
and the haze but the curious thing about
this morning is actually that you can't
see it because it's in the Sun at the
moment there's a vessel over there and
it's very much parked up on the reef and
we've been looking at it through the
binoculars and we can't see an anchor
chain out which seems strange because if
you had run your vessel up on a reef and
then gotten rescued you thought you
might have put an anchor out but we
don't know we can't see exactly because
of the angle of that the vessel is on at
the moment compared to us so we're just
going to check actually bit of Mariners
code to make sure there aren't any lost
souls on board
and yeah
anyway that's what we have to do right
now
well that's difficult she's uh
too hard on the ground isn't she bad out
on the ground they've already been
someone's already been here hope it's
the owners to take stuff off the vessel
while they look at things as hatches
missing and anchor missing anchor chain
that's why we couldn't see the anchor
chain yeah there's a lot of stuff
missing off this boat so hopefully it's
the owner who's got it and not naughty
people
anyway I feel surprised if there's
anyone on board
considering there's been other people
here already so that's a bit sad to find
a vessel stuck up on a reef there must
have been motoring quite hard to get up
here because it's very shallow anyway
another interesting occurrence she's a
big ship she must be 70 feet
[Music]
this is what you see when you see it
stricken vision feels very said to be
sitting on a boat that Sun at the end of
its life hopefully it's gonna get
salvaged over taken away off that's a
beautiful way
getting cleaned up but currently the
ocean is taking it away sometimes
obviously being on board
taken quite a lot of gear and see the
light drop down the back wall - yeah
very sad very strange to be sitting on
us on a stricken vessel in
very sad in days
[Music]
it's not what's meant to happen to
business anyway the good thing was it's
not one what we're on board
stripping themselves
[Music]
on our way home we spotted some wreckage
along the beach and in the water so we
stopped to collect as much as we could
anyway we picked up a little bit of
rubbish and the best live are they take
it off the shore yeah take it off the
shore it's amazing turtles and stuff oh
please this type of stuff and it locks
their bales up and needless to say what
happens next so yeah make sure you try
and take everything home with you if you
can't for the future of ESA well yeah
their little friends are Turtles yeah
what happens with the turtles we just
learned this recently as they are they
get a syndrome called floaters syndrome
and which means they can't dive and then
they're at risk or like it's sun-baked
and then they're at risk of getting hit
by other vessels and predators so yeah
it's we do try our best to pick up
flotsam and jetsam when we can and take
it to shore and yeah I encourage you to
take your rubbish and your bits and bags
and balloons and whatever you've got
with you or you find and get it out of
the water because yeah it's really
detrimental to turtles and sea life
especially anyway I think it's about
time we might go and see if we can grab
some coconuts cool
a coconut and a thank you so much for
