Oh take advantage of this sunshine what
do you think it is nice it's not over
let's say yeah I'll have a productive
week you just let's take it easy a
little bit we've been on the go all week
kind of thinking we need to move outside
though
I agree take advantage of this nice
weather I mean look at this it's just
beautiful out here the outdoor stuff I
agree I'm thinking first thing now that
we have it finally a week with no rain
let's tackle the engine control cables
get the engine controls all going and
also the diesel bills and the diesel
breathers
well of course do it let's go I'm just
kidding I know you could just let's take
it easy I'll hit it hard tomorrow and
then I'll let you know I definitely will
need your help though
what what are you doing
okay my little project for today is get
these guys in my new diesel fills and
then put in my breathers the breathers
will be a little trickier though because
the holes about an inch thick there and
I can only expand this out to about I
don't know five eighths so I'm gonna
have to get creative putting this
through the the hole here I'll show you
how I'll do that but first tackle these
days the easy ones these are when I
built these staterooms
I built into the headboard an access
panel and I left this on here with a
four inch space between it so I have
room for electrical on the other side I
have room for plumbing for the upper
head but it also gives me a spot but my
diesel no way through so it's gonna tuck
right into this right up in here not
much room but that's where it's gonna go
and my breather
I'll route that up over this way and
right out through there it'll be tight
but that's what this space was for I'll
have to get a I'm gonna help me
okay you know what to do right okay I'm
gonna fire up the drill here in a minute
so get your vacuum all ready
[Music]
okay here's a little trick I always do I
always take ideal for automotive marinas
it's a self-sticking weather seal and I
don't use it to seal things down I
always put a little beat of this around
perimeter so when I add all my adhesive
in here you don't get that terrible
squeeze out all over the deck and all
this does is control where your sealant
is going or your 5200 or your caulking
or whatever you want to use everybody
uses something different but that's how
I do it
and it controls it nicely
[Music]
the foam tape will come out a little bit
around the perimeter but it's a lot
easier to deal with than that
using sealant okay one down one more to
go right over here okay start it up
they hold it right there in the center
right there
okay here goes again the same idea and
it doesn't matter it's kind of a small
application to do this but I do the same
thing when I do hatches holds it in
nicely you don't get squeezed out
anywhere
nice clean okay it's the next day I've
got my sealant is cured so I can make
the connections under the deck now
this fitting I know was a little close
to this bulkhead here but I had to put
it here because remember when I built
the stateroom I put a four inch wall
back here and I wanted to tuck and hide
all the plumbing for this fitting behind
the wall as well as the breather which
this wall continues all the way over
here so I'm gonna put the breather and
here's the breather right here I'm gonna
fit it about right in here and I want it
to fit it here rather than on the other
side of the boat because if we do have
an accidental spill it'll spill down
here in where I could control it but
this will be tricky and here's why it'll
be tricky see this port light I cut this
port light out
and here is that core right here
if you look at my breather and I back it
all the way out that's about it can't
quite make it it's about a half inch
short so what I end up doing is from the
inside take a hole saw I'll bury the
hole saw 90% through then remove the
plug without damaging the skin on the
far side I'll then take vaulteq mat and
insert it in there and build it up with
epoxy to my desired thickness then I'll
give me a nice strong substrate to drill
through to mount this so that's the plan
but first I'll make the connections
under the deck or my diesel film
[Music]
okay now that I've made the connection
behind the headboard here and it's nice
and snug I feel good we have the
breather now for the tank they used to
come straight up next to it here but I'm
moving it over here so I don't want to
do that for a couple of reasons
I don't want an accidental moisture to
come straight down and into the tank so
I'm going to bring it up at a nice big
arch bring it high up here and then
bring it down and exit over here so if
water ever does go into breather
it would have to travel uphill right
here to get into the tank and it would
naturally just run right back out well
keep them just another way to keep a
little moisture out of there only I'll
be working in this tight little space
back here you know I've made this a 4
inch thinking it's plenty of room and it
probably is it's just gonna be tough to
get my hole saw in here drill a hole X
giving it out and then do some glass
work back in here but I'll manage
hope I didn't go too far I didn't
I Rizzoli was gonna go dead center in
here but I figure if I could get my
whole sighing I might as well scooch it
over a little bit give me a little more
room off the wall okay
now to excavate this out without
damaging the exterior
okay now manually take the rest out okay
it's getting there just take a look at
this thing now just need to clear out
those rogue cells get it nice and flat
so I could get some epoxy in here
[Music]
[Music]
getting closer okay I've got it all
cleaned out
it's ready to go I left a little bit of
texture in here because I'm gonna use
thickened epoxy in here as well
so it gives it something to grab to you
here is what's left of my car pretty
amazing stuff trying to pull that out
it's pretty strong let's go look outside
- it looks like okay let's see how we
fared out here yeah just what I thought
it's probably strong enough now but I
still just want to be a little safe I'll
put some more backing in there okay now
I'm gonna do my little ball take Matt
insert here the stuffs amazing actually
look at this
you can't tear it can't rip it can't do
anything it's just strong and it's like
a little sponge you just soak it up with
epoxy and it is durable check iein laid
this whole deck right here this whole
carpets made of this so what I need to
do
trace out a couple of circles I'm going
to go to layers on the inside two layers
will give me another about 3/16 of
thickness use my hole saw
because that's the size of the hole just
kind of
Pam
don't go out so far come back in here
[Music]
thank you
[Music]
oh that one's gone
and you'll see a little circle floating
out in the water will you grab that for
me please
[Music]
get breezy today
thank you
how's the water how's the water nice
okay I just prep the other side drilled
through cut my full saw on the backside
here remove the core and prepped it for
epoxy so next is I'll get the epoxy one
okay doing the epoxy work take a look at
this this is just West system 105 with
the 205 hardener I'm putting my discs in
here and I'm gonna saturate these things
and get them all let these soak for
about five minutes in here
these will expand up and get fully
saturated
let's use one pump of each smallest
increment I can measure this right here
is same one pump of each with a
colloidal silica additive to make it
thick you do not want these to blow in
the landing so we'll let the soap for a
little bit then I'll get these inserted
see what I'm doing here
okay that's what it looks like let's get
this up in here this is the first layer
the next letter goes in much easier they
know thicken epoxy on the next layer
and I should do it one more layer and
we're ready okay let's take a look at
this I have put an end to layers I also
push back and crush back the honeycomb
by an eighth of an inch and filled it
with thick and epoxy as well we'll let
this fire off and I'll sand this out in
the morning and we'll be ready to drill
for the vent
okay it's the next morning and let's see
how this did
two layers of Baltic mat laid in behind
epoxies cured now I need to bore a 7/8
hole right through there and I did the
same thing on this side here
[Music]
okay QC how much thickness I've added in
here brought it from about about 3/16
thickness all the way to almost 3/8 by
adding that ball Tech mat plenty strong
now that feels good
clean
okay back from the marine store let's
see if we got rest of my fuel line for
the breathers I moved it about five feet
from the original location so I had to
pick up ten feet extend over new hose
clamps I needed some screws I can show
you what this is for in a minute and the
Marine store didn't have my brass
fittings I bought these nylon wants to
temporarily fit these in so I can get
all the hoses cut to the right length
and I did find them online I'm shipping
them in and have these replaced to the
right Parker about four days but we'll
get it all hooked up today anyway okay
let's see what the stands I just
finished this side here's my access
when I built these headboards I bought
this b9 for a reason hide all the
plumbing and electrical ok so now I've
got my fill on this idea my breathers in
this is actually leads for the shower
and it's all done and the screws I
bought earlier are actually these screws
right here those go to hold up a few
pictures now we're gonna do the same
thing on the other headboard just dress
it up a little bit we picked these up
from a local artist quite famous in the
area oh that's me just kidding
well it's me not famous
so let's go check out the other side and
I'll show you how we did all that
am i doing her schoolwork what are you
doing right now math yeah any questions
pretty self-explanatory okay compass in
is a little ray of Sun let's go down
here
well setup here's the three pictures
I'll be mounting and I'll be doing the
breathers on this side and put some
little hand so I'll get this all manner
it up
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
okay now to lay out my hand my little
handles and lay out the three pictures
[Music]
nice okay I know that I know it's in
well the pictures are in this looks
pretty hey it's a lot harder than you
think hit those things straight I know
where's everything else it everything's
in everything's in go check it out
okay I'm gonna test you on this okay
I see the feel line that's the diesel
fill that is the breather to the diesel
tank so we're all done we're done we can
go outside we could go outside all right
good job
