hey guys welcome back to SBB sick
I was a little spire today after I got
done doing school work with Emma because
I noticed that teal had snuck off to see
his girlfriend also known as the marine
store yeah and I know he's picking up
some more supplies or picking up another
project to do on the boat but it got me
thinking teal is really good at what he
does but he has a condition and this is
a condition I think that a lot of you
guys out there have it's called not
quite finishing your job and yeah
and he does about 99% of his project and
then he moves on to the next one so
drives me crazy-i and this I have
decided that I'm gonna do a seven-day
challenge and I'm gonna put it on the
board because it drives me crazy and
look around and things are almost done
but not quite so Emma I need your help
okay I'm gonna put this here and so
Sabbat my 11 year old can do this and I
can't alright so looking at the board I
know that a lot of things we have here
so he can do it so there's really no
excuse and let's see what do you think
the first one he should do oh I know
master head outlet he needs to move that
for safety reasons we have all the
supplies so let's put that on there huh
stove up and lock down I've wanted that
for a while yeah while we're at it let's
do the hatch springs for the pantry door
isn't there a cockpit lighting somewhere
here ooh but we're still on galley oh no
this one is the catch for the countertop
for the master head I know I bought that
when he started that project
Christmas lights yeah since it's
Christmas I want some Christmas lights
up what else
see ha ha
this one I bought years ago this is the
toilet paper holder for the master head
put that on there put that on there what
else here's another one this one was my
birthday present from last year
quick release pins yeah that goes on
there what else oh here's another Gally
one seal that countertop edge so I don't
worry about water going behind there
that's how many do we have so far 8 8 do
you think that's enough or should we put
more on there um I think that's enough
you sure yeah if not we can always add
dill ah don't worry ok so now the next
challenge is we're gonna go find all
those parts so he doesn't have an excuse
not to complete it ok what do you think
yeah all right
high five we said a besito camera ok
Till's almost home
another project another project yeah I
thought we were going to discuss a
little is the next project well this is
bound the board forever let me see what
is it that's right here it is right okay
what'd you do so what are you saying
we're saying that you have the condition
and this is a voice I feel like an
intervention you gotta finish these
things before you move on to the next
one
seriously it's not gonna take you that
long let's hide you good day yeah one
project a day okay hold on let me look
at this oh it's not that bad and Emma
says she'll help I will help too
okay I can do it I could do it so
challenge accepted
in seven days it's a busy week okay I'll
do it day one stirs oh you got a camera
yep - sneaky what might do with you okay
okay lens right
maybe I do have a little bit of a
problem but in my defense you know as
you're going through these projects and
let's look at this Gallic for instance
she has let's see one two items on her
little seven-day challenge in the galley
you know to build this Kelly there was I
don't know thousands of items to do and
I've got it down to two well actually
there's three she'd forgot to mention
the missing cabinet door but I'll get to
that later now that I mentioned that
she's gonna want it okay so that attack
these first two items I'm going to do
them together because I needed to seal
this back counter edge I need to take
the stove out to put the lock down on
the stove I need to take the stove out
so it's natural for me to do these two
together first and that's what I'll do
today that'll be day one what happened
was this lockdown I could have made this
cabinet a little bit deeper and this
stove oven would have slid further back
and I could have just drilled a hole
into the side of the cabinet for the
lockdown but as I plumbed it with the
propane leads I wanted more clearance on
the back side of this and I just didn't
want any lines
rubbing on the wall so I brought it out
a little bit further than I that I could
to use these lock downs so I need to get
a look creative today not a problem
just needs to be done huh so let's get
started first thing I need to do is just
clean all this out get the microwave
flushed down to the deck a lot of people
have been asking how this mechanism
works oh this is a good chance for me to
show you how I built it I know that
looks pretty pretty cool and fully
automated but it's really not it's a
mechanical device I came up with but
look how it flushes it out right on the
countertop gets it out of the way if you
want more countertop and it just comes
right back up when you do need it it's
actually a pretty simple device let me
show you how I built it
it all fits in our laundry cabinet here
I built a box and just put two gas
struts on it calculating where these
struts had to go was the hardest part
then I use for full extension drawer
guides mount it to the box and mount it
on spacers I had to calculate the depth
to get it correctly so now it's just a
matter of it it's in that full upright
position now and these gas struts hold
it up in the full upright position but
when it comes down I calculated out
where these gas trusts need to be so it
actually has a positive hold down when
it gets to the lower position let me
show you how that works and now that
it's in the down position and is locked
into the down position it just takes a
little bit of force probably five pounds
of upward force and then it gets going
all by itself and puts it back in the up
position no magic just a little
engineering okay first thing I'll do is
just get everything off the counters and
get this stove pulled out of here
before I pull the stove out I want to
get a center mark on the stops
I should do it let's pull this
I was looking for those no the stoves
out I could prep this whole back area
I needed it out to get this little piece
out I'm gonna leave that loose and not
seal it that is my spacer behind the
stove and if I ever have grease or
anything on there and we're able to take
it out and clean behind it but I need to
get this nice and clean and there's a
little bit of dust
[Music]
there we go
the only thing I need for this first
little project is a little masking tape
and silicone ooh maybe a couple napkins
that's about it
let me tape it up and get this in there
boy it's be nice to get this one done
it's been years we've been just being so
cautious not to get any moisture back
here but I'll be nice to get this done
he'd be back get out of here okay
everything's taped off now it's just a
matter of putting a nice bead put a lot
of pressure into it so it gets down in
there when I put the counters down I did
seal the counters down so if any
moisture did get in it would only travel
around about a quarter-inch and it's
been dry so it's time to seal it up
there we go
let this set up for a minute or two then
I'm going to pull the tape get a nice
clean finish that way
just get a nice clean pull going and
make sure you have a place to put this
because this silicone all of this tape
can make a mess it's good need to be
doing this little blustery outside tons
of rain off and on squalls it's blowing
out there probably 20 to the 30s today
but we're nice and toasty inside here
getting some projects done let's see how
this turned out
looks good the counter is sealed let's
take a look at this stove
here's my gas in inlet right here and I
put his lowest profile fitting on here
to turn this but it was this clearance
right here is why I had to put this
extra lip here which pushed the whole
stove out which it's gonna make it a
little more difficult to put my stops on
let's take a look at this gas lead yes I
could carve out into the bulkhead here
but this is a structural bulkhead I
didn't want to do too much I already got
one hole here to get my gas
tight-fitting through there so next
option is just accommodate this little
inconvenience here not too bad there's
actually two little projects here
putting this hit here the stop and I put
these little PVC skids on here and I did
this for a couple reasons I did it to
elevate the stove up just a little bit
higher on the counter I wanted to get it
up so the heat would come up over the
the top but more importantly is when you
set the stove on here sliding it in and
out it would just scar this paint by
putting in a PVC skin on here it
eliminates that but they're loose so now
that I know the system works I want to
connect those down first it's not gonna
take much just a couple little set
screws on this just to keep it from
sliding around
okay here's my dilemma the pin bisects
the edge of this counter so I need to
come up with a way to stop it out here
and I have these little straps so what
I'm gonna do is elevate this out here
with a few stainless washers bore out my
hole and the stainless should look nice
out here and it'll work real well it's
gonna tie right into this corner it'll
be very strong so you need to just
calculate how far out to space it and
mortise my home these little stainless
straps you know when you go to the
Marine store or a hardware store and
they put the sticker on and you peel the
sticker off and it leaves that I mean it
is just Slough this just a sticky mess
here's my little tip of the day never
dull this stuff is amazing I've been
using this same little piece of wadding
compound for I don't know a few years on
these little sticky pieces just rub it
on
and it's gone
look at this gone that fast
next thing I need to do is just
calculate my mortar size
that's exactly 3/8 I want to slightly
oversize it so I will go probably 5/16
now just clean up my mortise of it now I
hope Prime and paint it
next thing I do
put my little plate over this line it up
and mark it out
last thing I do is stack up a few
washers on the backside of this I'm
going to start with two and test fit and
see how it does if I need to space it
out further I just stack one more washer
on skids are in seal back here my new
stops are in let's see how this fits
counter seal oven is secure
looks like I get to let's see move this
to here and that's over
you left I'll get it
well take a little time left today let's
see what else I could knock out this one
this one's easy the salon table quick
release pins and that's when I built the
table leaf extension this bracket here
only
I need a low profile bracket and it only
came with this screw in retainer so I'm
gonna back that out and bore it and put
a quick-release system on just so when
we're adding this table leaf it goes a
lot quicker yeah there's one the other
one I need to remove is right here
this one should go pretty quick all I
need to do is back the setscrew out and
bore it to fit my new a quick release
pin sounds simple we'll see the hardest
part about this will probably holding
this little thing without scratching it
so I'm just gonna mount it to something
so I can get a better grip on
well I thought it would be easy to blur
that out I went through all my bits
well Plan B I just ran down pick myself
up the right drill bit a nice new cobalt
bit so this should do the trick
along with cutting oil it is so nice
having the right bit went through this
like butter just took it nice and slow
with cutting oil look at this
it's in perfect I like it so Lin is
having oral surgery
right now she should be out in about ten
minutes I'm gonna head on over there and
get her back to the boat so she'll be
laid up for the rest of day maybe
tomorrow we'll see ouch no fun wisdom
teeth X I don't have to travel very far
there she is right now in that window I
can see her so let's just down to the
end of the dock anything alright hope
she's doing okay thank you
let's get you back to the boat
Gail my pieces are bored out let's get
it all put back together sorry Lynn I'm
gonna make some noise want to give a
quick test on this and then move on to
another project in another room let
let's sleep at this off let's see how
this new quick-release system works
that's pretty good
thank you Ben
well I would say that was a success much
easier so let's knock that one off there
we go
just a few left oh boy there's quite a
bit
let's start working on this the master
head I can do these two right now that
way I could work down here okay next
item isn't the master head oh yeah
close the door keep it quiet and there
they are she's already set it up for me
she wants this installed there's another
catch and so it's designed so when the
counter tilts up it locks it out of the
way so you have access to the head I
need to install that first is the next
item is right here in this box that is
our twelve-year holder which we mounted
right there
so be nice to have the counter up out of
the way while I'm working on the teepee
holder so I'll do that first trick to
mounting this this is the easy part
this is the hard part because what I
have to do is more to sit in to the
counter and figure out where I need this
so let's start with that first thing I
did was just put a little piece of tape
right here pin on the wall I measure the
distance and found my Center mark now I
could fold this up and transfer the
center mark to the counter
take my little bracket center down there
now just trace this out and more to sit
in I'm gonna start with a razor and then
just finish up with a nice sharp chisel
okay I've scored this thing nicely now
just delicately take this little piece
out he is not deflate the entire counter
ah and there we go
it's perfect now it's just a matter of
rocking the door up and placing this in
the position where it locks in and
marking the wall out those be my first
two holes then I'll drill the third now
that the counter is done brings me to
the next little project
this is our first holders one in a great
consignment store a couple years ago and
installed it in the upper head and
absolutely loved it it's perfect
it was black though and that's the color
we wanted so we go to try to buy another
one turns out that was a special order
item and we couldn't find it we've been
looking for years trying to find a black
replacement for the head down here so
both total paper holders match well we
ended up actually emailing the
manufacturer and they said yeah we
happen to have a few toes in the
warehouse and they sold it to us
there we go exactly and then we have
upstairs you know how I hate miss
matching items so you have the counters
out of the way I can take my flange
place it on the wall retro on it just
trace it out
since this cabinet core is so thick it's
thicker than my blade what I end up
doing is cutting it twice now remove
this little piece here around here that
I could plunge my blade the rest away
through
[Music]
okay let's see if the sigfigs
say it's not perfect a couple of set
screws yeah it's two more projects down
total paper holders in counter latch in
let's knock those off the board while
the ladies are doing a little school
work over here that's school work
I'm gonna get on to the next item on
Lynn's little challenge and that's
putting these hatch springs on I put
these on other cabinet doors and what
they do is they keep the door like in
this case this one opens up opens down I
couldn't open it up because then it's
too hard to look around and into the
cabinet so I open it down but what
happens is it just free falls down and
it see it hits down here I don't want
this wearing here and if we store
anything on the ground here like a box
it falls down and could dent the cabinet
door so I'm going to mount these springs
here on it'll hold it in a horizontal
position right there easy to get to and
then easy to close so that's my next
item first thing I need to do is just
space this up the right distance so it
holds the cabinet door 90 degrees from
the cabinet phase and holds these in the
same plane that'll be pretty easy this
go quick now it's just a matter of
marking it out and mounting it
[Music]
well that was a quick easy when let's
see how these work now nice on to the
next project
I'm on the home stretch looks like all I
have left is electrical it's still a
little blustery outside so let's do this
one next that's down on the master head
I'd like to do is move this outlet into
this position
sounds easy first thing I want to do is
kill the power
and there we go now just remove these
base plates and start digging these
boxes out yeah well just a matter of
fishing it over to the other box see if
I can do this without getting a message
that was an easy one
one more electrical item and I am done
let's peel this one off the board well I
got ugly to get out there
it's coming down
okay I've been putting this off
because it's been just miserable out
everything's soaking wet but look at
this the sun's peeking out it's my
window so here's the last item on her
little seven-day challenge it's putting
an exterior outlet out here I don't want
to mount it out here in the weather I'm
actually going to tuck it inside of a
locker this locker
Ivan built the door yet but it's coming
I still want to mount it inside here it
always stays dry here water never gets
in this far but I'm still putting it in
a waterproof box that way we can open
the cabinet door plug in or maybe I'll
put a little knock in the corner of the
cabinet door I'm not sure yet we'll get
that figured out later but let's get
going on this while I can't because that
looks beautiful
my wire lead has to come in through this
cabinet actually it'll come down here I
want to plunge through here into that
other cabinet so this is where I'll
drill I'll drill a hole straight through
it'll mark it from either side and then
I'm bored out to one inch so I can put a
grommet on it
[Music]
there's where my mark came through gonna
mount the box right about there
[Music]
he does not much wood on this boat just
a few of these structural bulkheads but
it's nice to cut into it and see that it
is marine grade this is mahogany with a
nice thick layer of epoxy on it that's
on all the interior so and look at I
mean it looks like the date was put in
okay it's nice now couple set screws on
I'm going to tap off this outlet right
here it's only about a three foot run to
that other one and I do have a dedicated
line because this was near a sink
[Music]
okay ready I'm yep I'm gonna stuff this
down through here you can't see it yet
okay keep pulling then pull straight
down on it look at my lead is now in
place it's all has nylon ties securing
it and I'm ready to make the final
connections okay back outside weather
still holding I'm liking it
here's our lead coming out our weather
tight box just make these final
connections and we will have an exterior
outlay
[Music]
and there we go right there get the
security and we'll have a functioning
outlet
all right so the seven-day challenge
teal got done in three days which means
I think that I underestimated him next
challenge is going to be a lot longer
and don't think that that Galway door is
not all going to be on that list buddy
