so here we are
another day another Anchorage we are
currently in fisherman's Bay on Lopez
Island we pulled in about a day or so
ago right yeah and it's been great we
went into town we explored a little bit
it's a really cute picture ass Island to
go to and we were planning on staying
just a few days and then heading out but
it looks like the tides are not
cooperating with us we have to leave at
a high tide and for the next few days or
so it's gonna be a high tide at around
midnight or two o'clock in the morning
so I really don't want to leave at that
time so in the meantime we are going to
be here and maybe tackle on some
projects this is deck hardware so teal
is just kind of getting all the parts
ready this will be the backup late for
our jib track and then these are the
risers and backer plates for our
clutches and weights we also really
lucked out because as we were leaving
Port Townsend a couple fishermen came up
and gave us a couple fresh crab which I
am going to make into a crab dip tonight
so I kind of want to get started right
away but we got some other projects to
do before that
[Music]
okay I built this riser for our jib
track Oh a year and a half ago and I've
never installed the jib track itself so
we're gonna do that today
this jib track is four inch on center
we'll be drilling down through the riser
through the cabin top into the cabin and
putting a backer plate on the inside and
putting these quarter inch bolts every
four inches across this would be a fun
project for today it's a great place to
do it
[Music]
man you ready to hold the bucket ready
[Music]
[Music]
okay everything's all ready here
everything's pre-drilled and ready for
the track lens down here setting up the
hardware to attach the the track let's
see how she's doing
[Music]
you brought ready give me a second
I barely understand what you're trying
to get it it's pretty self-explanatory
this pork to starboard I remembered wine
through 26 right yeah no I got it I'm
just trying to figure it out this is
just like each Bowl it's a different
length I know then you guys look
beautiful behind it you're almost there
there that's the order yeah tap him even
make sure one doesn't get too far ahead
although as a beautiful smear perfect
well it actually went pretty easy wasn't
too hard to put this in good thing
because it's all coming back out in
about three weeks this is a Harkin track
and it's not compatible with our new
Garr how're cars that are coming we have
a new Garr Howard track they're both
four inch on center so we'll be able to
just unbolt this and bolt the new one
right back in we had to put this one in
temporarily so we could get the rest of
the deck Hardware down not too much work
not too bad but we're gonna do it all
again in a couple of weeks next thing we
have to do is after the GAR Howard track
is in we'll cut off all the rogue bolts
we ran them wild on purpose because I
want to make sure that the new gar
Howard track it's a little bit thicker
than this one and so when we put it in
we'll be able to get an accurate
measurement on the bolt length cut them
off put a decorative acorn nut and a
lock washer on
[Music]
so the Sun poked out so the girls just
ran into town took the dinghy over the
dinghy dock which is right over here
then it's a half a mile walk or so into
town they're getting groceries we're
getting a little low on a few items they
should be back I would thinking in hour
and a half two hours so that was my
window of opportunity to make a mess so
I set up my cut booth I'm back onto
making these back our plates and risers
for the deck hardware I've got so many
to build and every chance I get I'm
gonna try to make them
I set up this little booth here to try
to contain some of the debris it's a
little breezy today and I don't want it
blowing all over the boat or blowing
into the water this way I could contain
it and sweep it up when I'm done so
that's what I'm up to
we'll try to get it all I'll try to get
a big chunk of it done and cleaned up
before the girls get back we'll see
though
[Music]
okay that was a nice little push got a
few more components built for our deck
hardware and the girls just called so I
got about 15 minutes clean up my mess I
think I'll make it well we'll see you
know I walk a fine line with the girls
sometimes you know they understand I'm
trying to finish finish the boat and I
understand that this is their home so I
really have to make sure I clean up my
mess but I'm working on very dirty
things I try to do it out of their sight
I mean this is their home and I want to
you know respect that and want them to
come back and and want to be here I
think they appreciate it too in fact I
know they do keeps everybody happy keeps
our spirits high
and with spirits are high there's
nothing better
coming in hot perfect nice like being
from the Pacific Northwest we are so
blessed with access to all this fresh
seafood and most specifically Dungeness
crab it just so happens that it is crab
season so we are taking full advantage
of it and tried to incorporate it into
our meals because it is my absolute
favorite I always try to cook with fresh
local ingredients and this is no
exception you guys know I'm a little
obsessed with food and I love to cook
for family and friends so for tonight I
made a special crack-tip served
family-style this is a time for us to
decompress and just unwind from our busy
day I have to say the crew enjoyed it
[Music]
so it looks like our stay here on Lopez
is over because we just got off the
phone and it looks like our parts for a
deck hardware has a right and it just so
happens that our friends are heading up
to Friday Harbor in the next day or so
so we're going to head over there and
meet up with them to get some of that
stuff it's been a great stay here even
though it could be warmer but not too
bad I mean we got to sightsee around the
area and just kind of relax and get into
cruising mode I guess we were still
doing work but it's different now
because we're on the move all the time
there's set plans but not quite set
plans so it's been fun but I'm kind of
excited to get out of here we're leaving
in probably about an hour or so because
it's still low tide it's an incoming
right now
and you don't want to leave at low tide
because it's it's like a 12-foot tide
swing so teals just checking all of our
systems since obviously we're motoring
over to Friday Harbor making sure that
everything is tightened up or loosened
up or everything looks good so super
excited I got to get back to work - I
got to make sure that my job is done of
course I had to pick the time to leave
right as the rain comes I know okay well
look at this we got a couple of projects
in while we're here
got a bunch of those risers built I have
a horn it's been foggy in the morning so
we put a new horn in we also got our
second depth sounder end so now we can
read depths off each hole and it's
raining and it's raining
it's a tight Anchorage here to make your
way out of but we'll be fine ten feet
look it's high tide it's less than 10
feet under it's eight feet little
intimidating especially with the 12-foot
tide there's no way you could get out of
here at low tide these are days that we
really need I know this is my incentive
to get it built okay eight feet under us
right here
[Music]
just taking it nice and slow and just
inching our way out of here we got to go
around this marker here and then we'll
be in deep water
so this is just a real quick trip should
only take us about an hour just hooking
it around the corner over to Friday
Harbor
there's a nice Anchorage here it's a
little deep though it's a couple of nice
marinas we'll cruise through and make a
decision that clicking is not our
engines
that's Lynn trying to stay warm okay
[Music]
here we are you know we rolled into
Friday Harbor last night in driving rain
it was just crazy conditions you know we
went through the Anchorage and it's
right here you can see it in the fog it
was pretty tight you know we probably
could have anchored there but it was
awfully wet so we decided we'll grab a
slip for a night or two the ferry
terminals right here so when our package
gets here it's just a short walk you
know we made it but was half a month off
a dock and our power was never an issue
our solo was keeping up fine even on
cloudy and you know overcast days I
really didn't have much issues we
weren't putting out a lot of energy but
our batteries were in good shape from
the previous day or previous days never
had to start a generator or the engines
once to top off the batteries we did
motor between Anchorage's and I'm sure
that certainly helped but for the most
part the solar so far
you know as a matter of fact we plugged
in right now just to run some additional
heating to dry things out from that
rainstorm last night but I didn't even
plug in the battery charger batteries
are fine and the solar is gonna keep up
even in this but it is nice to have
unlimited water right now we all took
extra long showers last night and we'll
enjoy being on the dock for a dare to go
check out Friday Harbor Friday Harbor
has ferries coming in and out all day
long from Anacortes Orcas Island Shaw
island and Lopez aye we had fun walking
the docks browsing through the shops and
exploring this historic town Friday
Harbor is a bustling port with lots of
boat traffic sea planes
ferries and small cruise ships coming in
and out all day long throughout the
summer months
visitors often take advantage of the
many restaurants gift shops art
galleries well watching charters trails
and bike paths this is a very cute area
to visit year-round so on the run from
Port Townsend up to Lopez Island we
develop some steam and exhaust on this
engine so after we resolve that issue
I've been paying attention to this
engine a little bit more so on our run
from Lopez over to Friday Harbor here
I'll watch it real careful and I noticed
there was a small drip coming out of the
water pump I didn't know if it was
coming from the water pump or one of the
hoses so I just took the hoses off
inspected the hose that they look great
I put those back on but I did notice
that this o-ring that seats the housing
together here looks boy it just feels so
flat it's been flattened down I suspect
that's my problem there's been a small
drip which creates a little bit of air
which drains my seawater strainer
luckily I have 1000 rings in inventory
I'm gonna put it over hang in lube it
with impeller lubricant put it all back
together and see if that resolves this
issue hopefully it does
well I replaced the o-ring replaced this
hose hose clamps fired it up still a
little bit of water coming out but I
found the problem my water pump has a
hairline crack on the bottom of it it
was hard to see I was able to get a
camera under there to see it so luckily
we keep a spare water pump on board I'll
throw this in and get another one I want
to have another spare
this one's toast and that fixed it no
more leaks okay we're good to go our
deck hardware is in on that ferry going
to meet him to get the package girls
already up there somewhere
hopefully I'll run into him on the way
okay we got our components and parts
from Seattle bikini in by ferry some
friends of ours were kind enough to
bring him up on the ferry they're
heading back now Thank You dick and
Susan that was very nice you guys
meanwhile our plan was to leave tomorrow
morning but having a little bit of a
weather event here tomorrow actually
they're calling for a gale everybody in
the Marine is buzzing about it and tying
and retying their lines setting out
extra fenders so we're gonna camp out
here one more night should go away
pretty quick it's gonna be a short-lived
event looks like it's gonna start up
three in the morning and be done by late
afternoon we'll just enjoy Friday Harbor
one more evening not a bad place to stay
then we'll head out early the next day
now that we got the rest of the parts we
have just enough time to go explore the
rest of town we went up to the Center
for whale research an orca survey
outreach and education center the cwr is
dedicated to the study and conservation
of the southern resident killer whale
population in the pacific northwest as
of July 1st 2019 the extremely
endangered southern resident killer
whale population has dropped to 73
individuals due to the scarcity of
suitable chinook salmon prey we learned
so much by talking with the natural ists
and researchers we watched amazing
videos listen to whales vocalizing otter
and became immersed in the world of
whales through interactive displays and
virtual reality goggles if we all do our
part with education and conservation we
can keep these beautiful animals off the
endangered species list
a storm starting to ramp up out here
wind's coming out of this direction it's
blowing 30 right now and it's gusting 35
maybe once in a while we get a big burst
coming across there you can see one
coming now
I wish the wind is coming out of this
direction a little more but a lot of
this patch
but we're holding pretty good
can set out a bunch of extra lines even
though I won't need it we're being
pushed into the dark but I've got a lot
of fender job
and here comes right
[Music]
well we're still ramping up a bit here
[Music]
but the sun's coming out you know we
probably have only about three more
hours of this little weather event and
then it'll start dying down
but feel pretty good
it's actually kind of fun
[Music]
okay I think we're at the peak of this
wind event
[Music]
probably blowing 30-plus now the gusting
into the 40
but sun's out now it makes it feel like
it's gonna be over soon
we're still riding nicely here
we're not going anywhere it's amazing
what one day different makes conditions
are perfect the Sun is out and we are
untying the lines now to head off to our
next destination be sure to tune in next
week to see where we're off to and give
a like make sure that you're subscribed
