oK we've been in Port Angeles now two
days I've got a project done on the boat
we provisioned and the weather is
starting to clock around in our favor no
longer it's gonna be 20 knots on our
nose it's gonna be 10 knots
on our tail so that should be nice
comfortable sail for tomorrow morning
we'll leave at daybreak we'll leave at
daybreak and have a nice sail up the
Strait of Juan de Fuca you know it'll be
a full day's run from Port Angeles up to
Neah Bay and we'll be able to camp out
there that's a good jumping point to
wait for it than our next weather window
to head down the coast of Washington
beautiful night so we're just enjoying
it we're all prepared for tomorrow
morning and daybreak
we'll be out of here okay Sun hasn't
come up yet we're heading out of Port
Angeles and unfortunately it's not a lot
of places to anchor
for the next couple hundred miles of
coastline we're going to be hopping from
farver to harbor and try to make them
during daylight hours it's getting cold
though it's 34 degrees outside so it'll
be a chilly run and we'll make it into
Neah Bay right before sunset that's the
plan well we're just flying up the
Strait of Juan de Fuca nice brisk breeze
on our back about 12 to 13 maybe 14 15 s
we're cooking along under Dib at six and
a half knots
sometimes hittin seven
we did have a situation though our our
jib track our 26 year old jib track we
knew it was outdated we knew it was
gonna have problems and it did it let go
with a big pop here about five minutes
ago
so I rerigged a new working jib track
until we get into port
[Music]
seems to be working just fine we do have
our new Garr Howard track it is sitting
in Portland waiting for us
maybe I'll ship it up to our next
destination
we'll see but for now everything seems
to be running fine just got to get
creative once in a while
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
so I'm in the cabin picking up some
snacks for the crew and I'm going to say
it's been kind of Pleasant it was a
little choppy in the morning but not too
bad we did have an incident with our
youngest crew member hasn't gotten his
sea legs yet so poor guys just sleeping
it off
otherwise not too bad just been pretty
good emma is sleepy still but she's
getting the hang of it
kind of cold right now
[Music]
a little mishap earlier good not to
worry no big deal we've neighbors here
we knew who we had to replace it anyway
just added a little excitement to the
day okay the girls are up on on the
netting up there
we lost our wind so we curled up the
head sail the Tampere rigging worked
fine all day not ideal but it got us
here we're just two miles from the
entrance it's what's a pretty successful
day we're about 60 miles into this this
journey today and we're on the
homestretch we could see the the marker
buoys for the channel opening and we
should be in the harbor within half an
hour okay here we are
Neah Bay at the Makah tribal marina you
know we pull in and everybody started
grabbing lines and helping us dock and
just real friendly people here so far
it's been awesome and to top it off
we're here see how
I go to check in and come back with this
huge halibut look at this look at this
fillet this is amazing I love this place
I love halibut everybody's so nice
everyone is so nice
okay so good first impression of me obey
I love it well they jockey this around
put us in a new slip we're the end tie
of sedeuk now that's a big fishing boats
coming in and they didn't want us to get
damaged by them it's not so bad down
here with the exception of one thing
[Music]
it's the fish cleaning station right
here right next to us so it attracts a
lot of sea life so it's really fun to
watch Lynne and Emma try to walk by
these guys
[Music]
okay while I'm waiting for parts to come
in we should get some today and some
tomorrow I'm gonna work on line control
I'm gonna put some more deck hardware
down to help control our roller furling
lead we have a stand up block here and
another fairlead I'll show you where
those are gonna go now that we've got a
little history with some of this deck
hardware and some of the rigging this is
quite the tripping hazard right now I
knew I was gonna do this it's just a
good place to do it so I built the the
risers for it and I'll get that in today
the idea is to suck this line down to
the deck here so it's an easier walkway
here so that's what I'll do right now
[Music]
okay I've built a riser
everything's sealed with butyl tape
[Music]
so while we were hoping to get our sale
tract picked up in Portland Oregon
things happen things break and we
decided to call teals brother who picked
up the package and he diverted it over
to Nia Bay so we can install it before
we head down the coast she'll just went
and picked it up so got lots to do looks
like I got a good project let's open
this up make sure it's the right thing
[Music]
well it's all here looks perfect
this new tracks quite a bit beefier than
our old track so I feel much better look
at this okay here we are bright and
early
sitting at the bus station you know
we've been doing our shopping here at
wash Birds they got a nice selection and
they do have hardware in there but they
don't have a few nuts and bolts that I
need to do this install so we're gonna
jump on the bus this morning and and go
to Forks Forks has a Ace Hardware we're
hoping they have a little bit bigger
selection but we'll see this will be
[Music]
well I've been waiting for this for two
days now we received our new track and
new hardware but it's been just raining
and windy just coming down in buckets
just solid for two days been blowing 25
and the rain has been horrendous
but just check the radar looks like I
have about three four hours of sunlight
so I'll be able to dry off the decks and
get this new track down I'm taking
advantage of every weather window I can
from here on out because it looks ugly
for the next ten days the old track I
mean let's face it it was 25 26 years
old and the hardware was in the end of
his life it was just brittle and old and
we put a little bit of a load on it
coming up this Strait of Juan de Fuca
and there was some plastic components on
that old harken gear and it just gave
way we knew it wasn't gonna last and we
knew we had to get a new track and new
hardware and this just kind of kicked
our butts and made us install it a
couple weeks earlier than we thought we
would not a big deal but sunny now so
let's get this in we're trying to beat
this weather and get the sale track in
[Music]
everything
it'll take all of these poles are
exposed I thought we had a bigger window
than this
I wait about two three hours building up
just right now right yeah 25 great
[Music]
almost got it
I will on the inside
[Music]
okay got that track down in the nick of
time we scrambled oh we got it winds
starting to ramp up again there's six
storms in a row hitting us we hit one
last night that was the first we got
another one hitting today four more
right after that so we'll just keep
busting these projects out while we can
start looking for that window
[Music]
we got that track in just in the nick of
time because it is pouring out and if
you notice some of our bolts are much
longer than we needed but we had to work
with what we had and in lieu of the
eight core nuts I used some temporary
nuts and now we're going to cut them off
and put those acorns back on
[Music]
[Music]
there's teal outside just
take an inventory of all of our dock
lines he said we were springing too far
forward and back so he's just
repositioning everything tightening
everything up there's major wind gusts
right now and it doesn't look like it's
gonna diminish so looks like we're in
for the night kid this is crazy crazy
weather
it's 140 plus outside easily gusting in
the fifties
and just rain coming down sideways
I threw out
you know we have ten dark lines now
holding us to the dark I'm glad I put
them out it is just unreal outside just
one more system coming by us tonight it
seems like they're hitting us in the
mill tonight every night
this is three nights in a row
just unreal outside unreal
so we're in while we're in neo bei
they're having a tsunami drill and this
is mandatory the whole town is heading
to safe ground so we're participating
the sealions art
[Music]
[Music]
keep going people we're six minutes into
this evacuation we got to get up to safe
ground well we're we're out of breath
but we're alive yeah we climbed
elevation about a hundred feet we can
keep going but anyway we'll make the
trek back to the boat now just wanted to
participate in the drill is part of
their life
it is cool are you out of breath yes
okay let's head back to the boat
[Music]
[Music]
so we've been in Neah Bay now for a
while and the weather has been
horrendous
telogen it has been challenging that's
why we're here we we saw this system
coming and we knew it would be a long
live weather event and this was a good
place to camp out plus the people were
really nice I mean the first couple days
that we were here we had three different
fishing families that came and brought
us fresh halibut it was like twenty
twenty-five pounds of halibut we had and
we filled the freezer refrigerators full
so is you'd a challenge to lend I gave
her a cooking challenge we're gonna have
halibut seven days in a row and find a
different way to cook it each night it
was challenging because there is only
one grocery store here and it's very
limited in resources so I did get really
creative and I think it turned out okay
it's awesome I did pretty good and I
saved the best meal for last last night
I made my all-time favorite which is a
vin amis hot and sour soup and it takes
me right back to you when I go to my
parents and my mom always makes it for
me because it is my all-time favorite
hot and sour soup is a combination of
sweet sour and spicy and you have to
find that perfect balance to complement
every flavor and I was able to find most
of the ingredients there were some that
I had to improvise but I gotta tell you
it was not as good as my mom's but it
was pretty darn close I was happy with
the result and so is Tila Demma
it was delicious I mean it was the
perfect meal for a rainy soggy evening
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
let's one say thank you to the Makah
tribal community they have been very
friendly and helpful
they have taken a situation like all
this bad weather and made it an
experience that we'll all cherish the
rest of our lives and as far as Lin goes
I through a difficult challenge her way
and she knocked it out of the park every
night was a creative and delicious meal
in fact I would have no problem
revisiting that same menu over the next
seven days anyways I need to get back to
editing here but if you liked our video
give us a thumbs up maybe subscribe to
our Channel you know we've got a window
it looks like in a couple of days of
some nice weather that may be our time
to get out of here guess you'll have to
come back next week to see if that
happens see you then
[Music]
you
