On this week's episode of Onboard Lifestyle we reach a major milestone and lift the hardtop into position. Ruth & Garrett from Salt & Tar lend a neighborly hand to assist us on a breezy day. We celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary with another 5-star meal prepared by Linh. Come back next week to see the next step...see you then!

on the last episode of onboard lifestyle
we took full advantage of a stretch of
nice weather to finish up the
construction of the hardtop
we were able to sand out the rain catch
fill it
and make the final laminations to tie
this project together
fairing compound was applied before the
hours of glorious glorious sanding
lawyered all that sanding was needed
to smooth out the surface for the
barrier coat
we applied three layers of interlux
2000e
and sanded between coats
we had a little bit of fun at the same
time
we will now let the hard top cure for a
few days while we prep the cockpit for
installation
mistake there's no mistake
just happy little accident
so let's get to work
[Music]
[Music]
i can't believe it guys our hard top
it is ready to be installed
so because of that
we have to prep our cockpit
and get everything ready so when it's
lifted up
we can just kind of slam it in slam it
in
apparently we're just gonna slam it in
please do even know me
and the cockpit now i don't know if you
guys remember
it completely failed the paint failed on
us
it was flaking so we sanded it down
today we're going to strip all the
hardware off
in the cockpit and start sanding i'm
going to be standing the heck
out of this cockpit this is like a
hangnail that teal won't let me pull
because she's been wanting to pull this
off for a month and i said just leave it
just let it
like does that feel good feels so good
i don't care now that means that there's
there's no going back
[Music]
well after sanding on this cockpit now
for two days
i've determined that the paint did not
fail i did
and now it is all primed we use
uh the inner protect 2000 e and
we feel really good about it so this is
when
we are ready to start making the backer
plates and working on the metal work
because
i think in the next day or so the top's
going up
it's so nice guys i'm just so happy look
at this
it's just it's almost perfect
are you frustrated yet
i'll get it so we're trying to
what well we have an aluminum arch
stainless bolts 28 years old
the dissimilar metals have uh pretty
much welded themselves together
i've about stripped out every one of my
large
phillips bits so i'm cutting a massive
slot in this thing
so i could use the big dog right here
the big dog
i'm sure this will get it i've already
soaked this with
pb blaster penetrating oils all sorts of
things
this my last resort before i drill it
out let's see if it works
it's kind of handy right there okay here
we go
there's some muscle into it it's moving
there's hope
so we're gonna cut this off then after i
get these out yeah i gotta start
shaping this to receive the top if i get
these
out
you'll get it my goodness that's tight
[Applause]
i just hope you don't snap it i know
[Music]
oh it's going now
never been so relieved huh
was either that or drill them out and i
didn't want to do that
i don't want to get metal fibers all
over our new paint
[Music]
which i just did just barrier coat
yeah there we go
one down one more to go
this is number three three down one to
go
there we go good job
[Music]
you guys got it
i've modified as much as the structure
as it needs to be
i left these little tails left on these
three posts they weren't long enough to
reach up to where the hard top level's
going to be
but i had an idea for that when we had
the posts made i had the fabricator
measure the diameter of this to match
the inside diameter of this
so the idea is these will sleeve right
over these
and that'll be our new hardtop base here
we'll put these three on when they came
back from the fabricator they were a
little rough
lyn's been downstairs polishing these up
boy they feel
really nice you know we're not going for
a mirror finish but
boy that feels smooth
[Music]
looks like everything's lining up by
[Music]
plan
i'm gonna leave these loose right now
we'll get the top on
this is plenty of support to hold this
top the idea is that i could still
sleep these up and down if i need to but
i'm pretty sure
i'm right on layout pretty exciting
i better go check on lan she's been
polishing all day
[Music]
hey you're not done
i am done it looks really good plus my
battery is low so
i think that's like perfect it worked
out perfect
well it's your lucky day that's what i
was bringing you it's a fresh battery
driver are you sure those feel pretty
good they
for a feel good sass me husband i know
better
things i have to do upstairs so i think
it looks good
okay i think it looks amazing you did
good
today is a very special day for teal and
i
because today marks us being married
22 years so we are going to be
celebrating tonight
i'm going to be making a couple of
teal's favorites and
we're just going to enjoy our company
kind of hard to believe that
we've been married that long because it
just seems like yesterday
i was duped into marrying a normal
person
and we all know he is not normal
i'm a very lucky girl
[Music]
do
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
today's the big day guys we
are all set to get this thing
hoisted up in just about an hour
teal has been busy all morning just
trying to get everything done
making sure that there's safety lines
and
and all the metal work is all ready
we're just gonna slam it in
we're just gonna slam it in i told you
we can do it but the thing is is we
didn't anticipate
it to be a windy day the weather called
for a calm
calm day calm morning calm afternoon
calm everything
but now the weather's flipped again and
it's going to be
blowing about 20 miles per hour which is
not a big deal
usually but with us lifting this thing
up we don't want it to
get out of hand and fly off somewhere
so we called in some reinforcements and
we're just waiting for them to show up
so that we can get this thing slammed in
so it looks like uh our reinforcements
have arrived today
you guys remember garrett and ruth
yeah you know they have that other
channel sultan tar
i'm sure you've heard of them
anyway so thank you so much guys they're
gonna come
and help us lift this thing into place
so hopefully the wind kind of dies down
i know if not it'll be like tight
yeah teal's going to go over the here's
the plan
so it's not doesn't weigh that much i'm
guessing we're going to weigh it
actually
halfway through this when we get it up
on edge we have a scale we're going to
get a weight on this thing
but it's somewhere between 150 and 200
pounds nice
and i'm hoping closer to 150. yeah
so the idea is we're going to just take
four of us on
one on each corner we're just going to
walk it straight through this opening
under the boat here
and we're just gonna stand on the ground
temporarily okay
yeah okay so the key for this the hard
part
is the dagger perfect i have this big
light soft underneath we have to kind of
lift it up like this
okay and then get it and go under like
that okay
how much under you think in here well
just so we don't
[Music]
just so we don't hit anything all right
okay it's not that heavy
oh nice that was the whole point
[Music]
just put one under each corner
[Music]
good reflection going and this isn't
even white
this is how we're gonna pan just put one
on our summer bonds right there yep okay
go straight down now
[Music]
okay so let's just tilt it up like this
on edge and we're going to set that edge
right on the towel and then we can throw
the scale right there in the center
okay and try to get a weight
[Music]
okay go ahead set it right down right
there
okay let's walk that side more in the
center of the plywood
that way i could get the scale on this
thing about once between
175 and 180 yeah now in 80 yeah 180
right 80
[Music]
okay i'm are you ready yeah okay we're
just going to go up a few feet ready
go ahead hold
that line's gonna have a lot of stretch
on it okay go ahead and pull
okay let's just rotate it in okay set it
right there for a second
[Music]
okay i think see this we'll lip it right
on the railing then we'll go up
okay yep
[Music]
and
of course we're almost there let's just
walk it this way now
about at this position
[Music]
so
okay we need to shift that way okay
okay so just slide straight back
right there okay
okay
almost looks like it's made for it
well thank you i know
[Music]
[Music]
