previously on onboard lifestyle
my dad worked on a project that has not
been operating smoothly
he hopes that the adjustments he made to
the system will fix our steering issue
with the helm removed my mom worked on
her own project
wrapping our 48 inch wheel with leather
thanks to my
awesome math skills we were able to
calculate the correct lengths
side note it took 1 152
shoe string stitches to complete this
project and it looks amazing
this is going to be a good day i can
feel it already
we are getting so much stuff done while
we're here
uh teal is at the store right now
getting some additional little
parts to finish some of his projects and
i got a notification from the marina
that our package came in well
my package this is something that i've
been wanting for a long time
and teal doesn't know that i place an
order
but this will mean that he doesn't have
an excuse to put it off and
procrastinate anymore
so what i'm gonna do is i'm just gonna
lay everything out
and just let the chips fall where they
may
super excited and we're feeling really
good about
all the things that we're accomplishing
while we're here
i gotta hurry though because i think
he's coming back soon and i want to get
this all set up
before because you know teal
if it's not on the schedule he's not
going to just jump on it
before i show you what's in this box i
have to say these past few days teal has
been working
so hard tying up all these loose ends
and he's done a beautiful job
seaming the hard top into our coach room
[Music]
i have to get all my glass work done in
the mornings
nice and uh calm only blowing six to
seven knots right now but it picks up to
like 15 to 20
every afternoon
so now's the time
haven't dripped yet
yet
this is the last lamination to draw this
seam together you know i didn't want to
waste the time on the hard
paying those lay days
just doing this work so while we're here
in richmond i'm buttoning it up
it's working you know an hour to each
day on this
getting excited to get paint on this so
getting tired of looking at the seam
i think i'll let this cure today sand it
and fair tomorrow
and get a barrier coat over it
make me feel better
this is raw core here this looks like a
painted surface but i've actually sanded
it back
i used a white pigment in my epoxy when
i laid that
lamination down years ago
i felt good about the the bond i'll get
on this
and this is just one more lamination on
top of many
it's looking good
[Music]
well i think i'm ready spent the last
week
every morning sanding and fairing and
laying glass
i mixed up my inner protect 2000 e
it's time to get that barrier coat down
[Music]
[Music]
and he's done a beautiful job seaming
the hard top
into our coach room having said that
this is part of tying up loose ends for
our hardtop
this is something that i have wanted for
a very long time actually
six years to be exact so i've been doing
a lot of research
in the evenings to get everything and i
got teals
notes teal is really good about every
time we have a project he
kind of sketches everything down he lays
everything out
and from his schematics i was able to
get a list of all the things that we
need in order to get this project
completed so i'm gonna bust this open
and show you guys what we got
do a really good job of taping this
i'm so excited for this all right guys
without further ado it is
cockpit lighting this is so fun
um i there's a lot out there
and i've been researching to see what
works because
not only is it important uh it has to be
waterproof
and we have to buy a lot of them eleven
actually uh for according to teals
uh schematics that that is what we need
so i got all the lights
these are sealed warm white
and we like the clean look of it
i also got the wire for it and
i love the connections while i was at it
i also got courtesy lights but
that will be part two of this uh project
in the meantime this is going in
uh probably the next day or so hopefully
teo will be pleasantly surprised
when he comes back so before you guys
accuse me of being
pushy there is a reason why i said i've
been waiting for
six years and i'm gonna show it to you
right now do you see this
these are our light switches these are
switches that teal put in
six years ago so one of the things is is
half of it works and half of it doesn't
this one
goes to our entry light
and that works
this one goes to our
shelf light that works
now these two for some reason
they don't work they don't go to
anything and i'll show you why
so teal had the foresight early on years
ago
to pre-wire everything so then when we
do get to these projects
it's a quick install you see this
he did a beautiful job wiring
all of our components and you see
there's the shower
the entry the galley the sink the shelf
and the cockpit but what's wrong with
this picture you see this
the cockpit no wires coming out of it
and the reason why
is obviously we didn't have a cockpit to
install our cockpit lights
but now we do so all these years of tl
teasing me
with these switches
will finally work i'm so excited
i hope he gets back soon because i
cannot wait to help him
get this installed
okay so everything is laid out
beautifully and
heel is on his way back so i'm just
gonna hang out here
and surprise him with all this fun stuff
i'm sure he's gonna be pleasantly
surprised
hmm
surprise this is weird
why look it i was totally researching
you had a camera going look at this
i was looking up lighting i was just
thinking about this we're almost to that
stage holy cow are you sure this is
right
yeah of course it is okay
[Music]
those look nice they do hang on
i got another project
you know lynn just blows me away
i mean look at this she not only
got all the cockpit lighting she got the
courtesy the red courtesy lights
and then went through my electrical bin
and topped off all my connectors make
sure i'm set up for this project
[Music]
ah this is gonna be fun now
i'll start layout
and get this project started
[Music]
okay up my layout now it's time to drill
well there we go all the holes are
drilled
in our socket so now it's time
to start with the electrical end of this
that should go pretty quick
oh hey take a look over my shoulder
right here
look at this sailboat that pulled in
she's a beauty
the sailing yacht kaori is a 38 meter
125 foot well-proportioned aluminum
luxury yacht
she was built by palmer johnson and
officially launched in sturgeon bay
wisconsin
in 1992 with her 8.6 meter
28.2 foot beam kayori has a spacious
interior plan
in 2009 she underwent a masterful refit
where her aluminum masks were replaced
with the state-of-the-art
carbon fiber spars within boom furling
it allowed for the use of battens to
increase the sail area
and improve sail shape the way save the
loft
transformed the already stiff yacht into
a sailing powerhouse
[Music]
here is the wiring schematic for the
hardtop's light soffit
we have a fuse block dedicated for
lighting in this area
and it goes to a switch plate that has
two
switches on it so i'm going to run two
separate circuits and that was by design
this way i run one circuit that's just
going to light up
each corner of the lights off so if just
four lights on this circuit
the other one will light up the balance
so we can do a combination of one
or the other or altogether circuit one
has a run of 22 lineal feet
it'll have seven lights and draw 1.33
amps circuit two
20 lineal feet four lights 0.76 amps
total of only 2.09 amps
so this entire run can be wired with 16
gauge
well i've started pulling wires
i've worked it now from the switch
up into the socket
got a channel going through the bulkhead
here
now it's just a matter of bringing this
first circuit
over to this position here that's where
this will start
and then i'll wire the other four lights
the other circuit
will start here
got plenty of room up in there
just kind of snake it one at a time
getting it into position
i have the leads for the circuits all
routed
they're tied back into the fuse panel
here i'm not going to put this fuse
until i finish
the rest of the wiring they go up
through the soffit
i'll put a little conduit bridge right
here
and there's the two leads now i'll be
able to
fish the rest of the lines in start
wiring up these lights
so
and this is the last wire
with all these wired in it's pretty
simple
to hook up the lighting now all the
thinking is done
so i started put my first couple in
boy they look good look at these those
are nice
so let's wire in the next one right here
that right there makes me so so happy
teal has been working on the cockpit
lighting and
it's looking really nice which gets me
thinking
i want to reward him with something
really nice to
eat for dinner tonight um and it's
something that we used to
order all the time for takeout which is
mongolian beef
but i got to thinking that i should be
able to figure this out myself
and make it so that we don't have to
order out
and i finally perfected the recipe it's
super easy
and so good and just thinking about it
makes my mouth water because
it's that good
[Music]
so
[Music]
[Music]
do
do
[Music]
so
[Music]
[Music]
uh
[Music]
[Music]
so
[Applause]
[Music]
here we go
are you ladies ready yeah this is it the
big test
okay is excited
sun's going down and i'm well i have to
put a fuse in hang on
okay it's a three amp fuse
the cover goes on
you guys ready yeah you're ready
it doesn't work don't lie
here we go ready give me give give me a
okay go countdown three two one count
down from ten at least
no do it five four
three two one
this is so nice this is so awesome
this looks so good deal okay hold it
that's with both on let's do uh
just the four corners that's even a lot
of light
it is that's that's for ambulance
emma needs to go to sleep at that point
here we go
look at this it looks good i'm so happy
with it
yay
