We continue along the Northern Ireland coastline in our Bavaria 36 sailboat as we leave Ballycastle and Rathlin Island for the bright lights of Northern Irel...

well behind me are the seals of roughly
an island and they just look great
there's a little clip that holds the
flux compass in place and it may have
come loose when we get into port
[Music]
we tickle ferry across from ballet
castle to roughen Ireland because we
wanted to see the puffins
[Music]
we on a bus with no suspension got it
[Music]
there are lots Poppins in this picture
hiding amongst tens of thousands of
kilowatts but we did manage to see some
their bright orange fate ribbon standby
easy to spot in binoculars we then
looked at Rothman's famous upside-down
lighthouse before catching the bus back
to the only town in the island
stuff like that because the guys in
[Music]
eventually it was time to leave Bally
castle see West porush
[Music]
well it's certainly a lot to keep an eye
out as you as we sail across the north
coast of Ireland we've got roughly an
island to one side of us behind Beverly
we've got karakuri bridge can't really
see the bridge from where we are but we
can certainly see steep island which is
our next waypoint along the coast so
plenty to see
we were admiring the giant's causeway
coast when all of a sudden a problem
cropped up so our current issue is that
is the herring compass and that is the
heading on Annie's compass compass in
place and it may have come loose when we
get into port we'll have a look at it
right now we're about an hour and a half
fight and it's not worth pulling things
apart while we're at sea it's just
simply not worth the trouble
heavily and I have just come in from a
passage from Bali castle to port Raj and
I have to say this is where you need
something like mr. Dee
he really triumphs because we've come in
and we've got a really good hot meal
ready for us and that's exactly what you
want after a really really hard day it's
not really wasn't that hard because it
was just sort of like a passage but
after a passage you need some really
good hot food as you can see we're up
and raft up rather against this rather
large 50 footer and what I'm doing at
the minute is I'm running a line back
because the fishing book that was there
has gone and the plan is now to move the
boat back so we'll run a couple of mines
of the duck we'll give it a lot bursts
of reverse on the engine and then we'll
put it into that pontoon using the lines
that's the plan
what Bob's doing at the moment is
finding if there's any reason why the
flux capacitor flux compass went astray
yesterday so she's got a compass in the
starboard Locker having us having a look
see if there's any anything magnetic
that could have caused the issue but
look at my cockpit
it's got fenders everywhere it's two
o'clock in the morning in Northern
Ireland's version of black pill and you
can tell it's pre-season it's 10 o'clock
on a Saturday morning was hardly a
sinner in sight
[Music]
I'm winning big here how much have you
won that I've just spent the boundary of
two peas and I have got a toxic hearing
it up on a respectable isn't a fantastic
well port rosh is more like port slow
but very quiet little sleepy place but
I've just gone and spent some more to
peas in the arcades and I've got myself
a lolly so I'm gonna eat this as a walk
back down to the laughs
I know our channel is a little bit more
warts and all kind of channel this is
what sailing is really like and cruising
in the UK is really like but there are
times when I really could do with a few
lessons it is 4:30 in the morning and if
you ever hear the words dredging
operations in progress
run a mile do not go the harbour we came
here because Beth's mom is on holiday
here so this is a great way to see
Beth's mom but otherwise I would have
known for I come to pull rush as Watson
all is not good
[Music]
well my stomach's in knots because
Beverly normally just harvest I'm gonna
be able to sail this boat single-handed
and I've so got to do it but cement
stomach's in knots my worries
the people's people just started puddle
boarding in the marine Aeryn I did it I
got I got this out and then when we were
out in the bay I had to do little
circles because Annie had gone on the
blink in our previous passage and now
we're gonna have to move her again
anyway Annie had gone on the blink and
so I was driving around in circles but
at least now Annie is that's all
autopilot is now saying roughly exactly
the same as what the compass is saying
and although I'm standing here it's
really Annie who's actually in control
there's something magical about sailing
I think it's the quietness of everything
even though it's a pretty overcast day
it just feels and whoa we've got plenty
of Rolie stuff as well actually yeah
this will be our very first Atlantic
swell that we've ever encountered so
we're getting plenty of that as we sail
across the island there was a change in
the wind the waves began to pile up and
the Coast Guard started warning to
generating weather so we changed our
strategy and motor sales strip towards
the nearest safe harbor which was poor
Delmon Island a particular tank
appeared out of practically no weddings
if every just came out of the midst lots
of lighting bomb is it basically it's
gas it's a gas carrier so that's what
floating bomb look like that's something
don't we go and find out what that is a
little bit foggy coming in but I can
imagine this scenery being absolutely
stunning on a beautiful day so that's
point port ellen ahead of us yeah we've
got it in the fog but well it's really
just slight mist so that's what we've
got we've reached poured Ellen on Isla
and it looks absolutely glorious
glorious as you can see lovely little
Harbor to be in but there are hidden
hazards aren't there yes we came in into
the harbor last night and we were
advised by a local to move our boat from
the seaward side to the harbor you know
to the inside because there's gonna be a
bit of a blow later and you know it's
slightly more sheltered on the harbor
side so so we DS aside to do that and
Bev's put the boat into reverse and all
of a sudden it started juddering
you
