We RUN AGROUND, drink all our booze, and swim with DOLPHINS!!
SailAway Ep. 8 Travel Vlog - So we made it 600 miles living on a sailboat from Atlantic City to Charleston after one day of owning the boat...but sometimes it's all about enjoying your own "back yard"! During a visit from two of Eric's best friends, we decide to do just that, sailing up to Charleston from our home marina of Sunset Cay in Folly Beach, then tool around the harbor with no place we had to be. Sounds easy enough, right? Well it didn't start off that way....we ran aground! But we also do our best to illustrate when it's time to panic and when it's time to relax, drink em if ya got em, and just wait for the tide to come in. :-) Keep sailing, mates! All a part of sailboat living! Be sure to SUBSCRIBE for WEEKLY CONTENT! Cheers!!

We're not moving we're just healing
Remember in the last episode how we delivered Layla all the way down the river to her home marina at Folly Beach
Well this week two of my very best friends Courtney and Jeff were in town for visits so we decided to reverse that track and take
Layla to Charleston Harbor for some fun sailing easy, right
Started to drop like a half a foot
You don't feel like this something we can get past if we backed up a little bit to find out
Some sailors those who have run aground
So yeah a lot of people don't even try to put their boats here because they think it's impossible to get into
Which isn't true but the problem is the charts are wrong. You can't look at the charts you have to follow the marks and
The thing with the marks is all of the bottom through this whole entry in this river is constantly
Changing and depth and moving around and sandbars popping up here and there so the locals will move the marks around
To put them in a better position for the deep stuff to get in and we've never really had a problem with it
Well we showed up here on Monday
to bring the boat in
The last mark that we'd go to before cutting across the arena was all the way across on the other side of the river
and so I had to decide, well did somebody do that on purpose or did the mark just
Drift or something but going by what they tell you follow the marks as locals move when we followed it
It was high tide so we got through okay. I noticed it got pretty shallow but
We got there and so we came out this time and came out by following the marks, but it was low tide and we bumped,
Just one little pump, and then we bumped a couple more times, and then we stuck
so we just talked to the guy with power boat said this mark did actually just drift away
So the path is the same that we always used to yeah
so
We gotta sit here for about another hour before
complete slack tide and
Watch our boat slowly lean over
And
literally
That's our marina. Yeah. It's right there and that Margaret for the booth shouldn't be there
Theoretically, we was only gonna. Wait a couple hours for the tide to come back up so so
we're gonna wait drink some beer
watch it come back up
We look really cool. Though. With our sails up
We're not moving we're just heeling
Here goes Bear Grylls
Okay if Jeff floats towards the marina the tides coming in
Rivers don't care resting at a nice heel
The water's coming back in
Well that doesn't help us we can't get there
It looks like when you run aground
It's real weird...oh look a dolphin!
How do you feel about it. Looks alright
We're almost off. Trying...trying real hard Almost
Four point seven. Let's get that up to five point five
Knots
5.50
We're leveled out right there well
We're free
Don't try this at home
All right, this is our first
True just sailing for the heck of it kind of sail
Took a lot of miles in a lot of hours to get the boat here
Which was fun and cool. But now we're just sailing
This is the green mark I hit so make sure we don't hit it that would really suck
You're angling to be upgraded from galley bitch to bosun arent' ya?
