Ahoy,
We finally left the Boatyard. It was so hot we couldn't work on the boat any more. Fay had to leave for Germany soon to finish her studies and we wanted to spend some premium time without the stress and tension of the boatyard. So we embarked on a journey into the unknown..
First stop was Kevin's place in San Juanico. We met him in the yard and helped each other with our projects, but he left a while ago and now we followed.
We did not plan any further and decided to see what the universe has to offer. And it offered us a beautiful RV. We found it on ebay but couldn't check it before the auction finished, took our chances and trusted the description. Which actually turned out to be the right choice..
join us on our roadtrip into the unknown, from one friend to another along some of the most beautiful places in America.
Aloha

smallest airplane we've ever been
here 12 seats
nice now we're on our way to loretto
to see a friend we made in the boat yet
it's getting so hot here in in wyoming
that we decided
to leave to go just go away do a little
bit
the last couple days we'll definitely
prove that it's a right decision
oh yeah it's getting harder every day
which is the worst the cats
but it's a short flight we only go up to
7000 feet
and hopefully everything's good fingers
crossed
summer was coming and we needed an
escape plan
so we embarked on a journey into the
unknown
packed a few things grabbed the cat and
jumped on a plane
that's how a drunken pirate walks
first stop was a friend's place in baja
california
what's going on we met kevin here in the
yard and couldn't resist the invite
to his place kevin left the yard a few
months ago already
and sailed his beautiful catamaran
through the sea of cortez
around lands and in kabul and up the
pacific coast to san juanito
it surfaced mecca
we took his badass customized fj and his
dog
on a tour along the coast and if you
ever heard
anything about fj's then you know there
is
no need for roads
[Music]
just driving around with no particular
destination
enjoying the beauty of the desert let us
quickly forget what we left behind
scorpion bay is pretty much untouched
and the further we drove
the more we felt like the only people
left on planet earth
compared to wyman's the weather was
rather warm than hot
so a huge improvement already
we drifted through the day and explored
the beach and desert with all its
beautiful treasures
[Music]
we stayed a few weeks lived with a san
juanico flow of pickleball
surfing and beach time tried to let go
of the stress
and tension of the boat yard and thought
about our next destination
we bought an old motorhome on ebay
packed our bags
grabbed the cat and flew to california
the rv was listed as a charity auction
on ebay
because we were hanging out on the beach
there was no way to check it out so we
trusted the description and hoped for
the best
well there's a black widow so here we
are at a friend's house
matt from sailing with vampires we just
got that
nice rig and we're going to check his
knowledge of car mechanics
way bigger than mine sums up everything
looks good for now
it's leaking just because things are
loose vibration
vibration yeah especially these fords
man they love the living room
i think you're fine the block looks good
i think you're fine christian you did
good like old bolts
old motor homes need attention but we
only had to fix the brakes
the steering and we're totally lucky
that all the systems were working
just fine we fixed what we needed
cleaned it
and hit the road thanks to matt and judy
it took us
just a few days
mega beast is a 24 feet mini winnie
built in 1989
based on a ford e350 with a reliable
but thirsty ford 460 motor
it was all we needed
[Music]
rving is pretty much like boating you
live in a limited space
and you carry your house with you
but there's one big difference
you can take your home into the
mountains we were heading to the grand
canyon
but didn't want to miss all the
beautiful places in between
like the national parks in california
we stopped on the road in national parks
hiked
awesome trails and showed the cat that
there is
more in life despite a dusty boat yard
[Music]
we lived into the days decided
spontaneously where to go next
and breath in the fresh air of the
mountain and forests
for the first time in so long he felt
free again
that's the simplicity of
[Music]
let's get it life take my hand just
follow me
oh i'll never get tired
[Applause]
[Music]
[Music]
so
[Music]
down in phoenix the brutal heat took its
toll
and we all came to our limits with
temperatures
exceeding 115 degrees
it was 4th of july everything was closed
we needed to wait for the night to start
the long climb
to flagstaff but patch started
hyperventilating
and needed to cool down immediately so
we sneaked into an rv car
to plug in and that's
80 degree in the fridge yeah that's a
[Music]
quick
in flagstaff we visited other boat yard
frames
seven thousand feet high temperatures
were
way better and heidi showed us around
it's a lovely little town full of
history
and we dove into flagship's nightlife
we knew the famous pictures of the red
mountains for
many years and finally were able to
experience them ourselves
sedona is a jam and we climbed up to
cathedral rock
views absolutely amazing and we felt so
small next to the huge mound
and the vast scenery it's
almost like you're on another planet
[Music]
[Music]
it's super hot outside but
i gotta cut myself down with some icing
[Music]
you know what's even better than hiking
biking thanks to heidi's badass downhill
bikes we were able to choose the lonely
route
[Music]
going downhill on this empty trail was
happening
the further we went the less the trail
became
and our fear slowly gripping it to meet
a bear
or a mouth line and turn into a snack
it was an amazing experience only
downturn was the way up
but we knew that before
[Music]
cold beer
[Music]
on the ocean far away from home
it's just me and my boat
