building a sailboat and video in the

process it's a beautiful sunny daddy it

is however jolly nippy heystop warm at

our look frozen solid a little bit of

liquid I can see moving under near but

this week has all been about sanding and

painting and I've done quite a lot of it

and may just end up in all of this area

the heads the Gardea

whatever this area in the middle ear is

they fall out before we see the court of

birth completely sanded up so all of the

panels and all of this in the mail would

then the next thing I did put on all of

the galley cupboards and the covers or

furniture in the heads but the coat of

no or two codes of thinned epoxy on that

and then a villa near painting

one coat of undercoat so far in this

area in the hates you look in the eyes

oh you'll see

but it's not finished by any means but

the walls the panels there

we've all got two coats on the Court of

us got two coats of undercoat and

obviously the next job there will be to

get the gloss on but to push on with the

painting goal is to get all of that

heads area painted out get in the game

you get that painted out get that

quarter berth glossed you might imagine

let me crawl up in there the painting up

in here is quite a joy you sort of end

up laying out up in the yard swinging

the paintbrush like this which is pricey

but no probably getting the impression

of my feet with the mascot obviously to

protect yourself from clearances is

quite an experience but yeah only needs

across that only needs a coat of gloss

and then they'll be finished and that's

what we've been doing the one final

piece of this cabinet trade that the

making was was this bottom faces painted

white now of these two side pieces here

here a shaped piece obviously these two

pieces are cut at 45 degrees that to

join onto the furniture there but they

are in a position so that's the

cabinetry in here done that so so as I

paint it up and actually get some

connections get the sinking of the water

spouting get it all connected up that'll

be nice

yes no they carry a little bit today

it's a hardware store and we ordered the

tires under the tile under a stove up

the side and this pocket along to here

somewhere this will all be tile all of

these are there they're a real the stars

cross small tile with over the patent on

it look quite nice I think so they

didn't have been stopped sit normally

it's three days I think that every tile

but obviously these are not normal times

so we couldn't say when they'll be

delivered but hopefully in the next week

or so

I'll get the cold so no they never come

pick them up and then can start tiling

that I need to do a bit of reading but

I'd imagine that a lot of second the

tiles in thick and epoxy retardant or

would they did have some adhesive in a

tube the claim to stick to all surfaces

as in the art wisdom possibility

I should do a bit of reading in the next

day about sticking tiles on wood to wood

in boats see what's recommended

kicked off yeah and weather yeah nice

a couple of weeks ago you probably

remember that I was messing around

attempting to charge the batteries for

these Bosch cordless tools it's a 12

volt battery attempting to charge those

from the from the ship's power from the

boat power

and one that happened was at Bosch

brought out this new charger oh it's a

very simple device as a nominal 12 volt

transformer on this end and the top unit

there the battery plugs into this chart

it's all it's got on it as an one LED

which flashes when it's charging and

glows permanently when it's fully

charged so that's where we were last

week and I wanted to instead of using

the transformer I wanted to charge us

from the bug path so I cut the

transformer off like that I put up the

other ones in the bow I put a cigarette

lighter socket on the end of that cable

I plugged it into the boat we put the

battery in there and the net result was

that it charged but it never reached

100% state of charge which means that

the LED never stops flashing that's

probably well sorry further experiments

the first thing I wanted to do was to

measure the voltage output from this

transformer see what it's giving out

I've got my voltmeter out do a few

measurements see what's going on so

basically I've got that the transformer

here that I cut off I should plug that

in and the first thing to do is measure

what the output voltage is from is what

the output voltage is from that so let's

do that

in 14.86 volts over that forty two point

eight five it's saying now this rather

more than the twelve fault nominalism

then on the bottom of this charging unit

there are two screws i took the screws

out opened it up inside there's a

circuit board and on that circuit board

you've got these four contacts two of

which since battery voltage and to

supply that charging current to the

battery and what became obvious was that

the circuit board that's in the bottom

of this unit is the control circuit

there's nothing in that thing apart from

a transformer and obviously an inverter

and a rectifier that's on top giving out

12 volt DC or normal all the control

circuitry is in the bottom of these so

all I've got here is another one of

these posh charges that I haven't cut a

transformer off and I've taken it apart

because the screws are removable what we

see then switched off it is obviously

there is a you know relatively small

circuit board and the contacts that the

battery makes contact with so so these

two I suspect a sense in the battery

voltage and these two other the charging

ones if I simply switch it on and try to

get a readout from the charging ones I

don't get a don't get a voltage readout

at all or very very minimal so I think

we need the battery in position sensing

battery voltage to get some idea of

what's going in there so let's just plug

the battery in there like that like that

on its side so you can see what's going

on good switch it on LED flash in stead

of a nasty dump let's see what we've got

no voltage in I never point four four

eleven point four or five volts is what

we're getting out there right now

4:7 live before 8:00 so basically 11.5

volts there and perhaps one more thought

over here

well that's plugged in charging what

kind of voltage er we've got this is

where the transformer attaches to the

circuit board so we're getting the

voltage coming out of the transformer

here we were just over 12 volts here to

0.14 it's reading right now so put 1/4

I'm going to leave that now went to the

early D stops flashing it's fully

charged and come back take a couple

measurements again so it's just reached

charge let's see what we've got shall we

voltage twelve point seven seven that

says in here what we've got trying to

transform or we've got fourteen point

four so better than full voltage coming

at a transformer now fourteen point four

there so yeah a little bit of wire in

there ah

they've got twelve point seven three

volts is what we've got there now it's

off what's in three bushes Hillier

aligns with the hell idea that these are

twelve point six volts and truce so

obviously if I've got my cigarette

lighter plug on the end of this and I've

got enough voltage going in I can charge

these batteries now these batteries are

fully charged at 12 points six bulbs

that's what became clear from our

vestigators

so all I've got to do is get more than

twelve point six volts in there to fully

charge that why couldn't I charge it

last time the answer is simply that my I

have a temporary small battery of our

local 40 amp hour battery that I'm using

just to test the electrical circuitry

it's not plugged into a charger it was

fairly flat it was only output in level

five volts so obviously I'll never get

that battery fully charged with 11.5

volts from my board battery I'll put the

charger on and lo and behold but ever

look at this there it is the LED is not

flashing we've plugged into board 12

volt battery is completely charged and

let me wander you around here you'll

notice that at the moment it dark trees

not as much at all but and run I'm

charging the onboard battery the little

temporary onboard battery I've got but

it's a charger so clearly we have

reached the desired balance of voltages

which may will be the other way around

so while I said last week ah it's worked

fully charged battery I like that so

obviously as long as we can get in

twelve point six volts or more into this

unit we can charge these cordless tool

batteries from more power and if you

think about it when we're up and running

with a proper ledger battery or service

battery in place solar panels in place

we should have twelve point six or more

faults available so given the sun

shining some of the panel's output

thirteen and a bit volts eight and a

half volts or so

which is suspended charging voltage for

let their nasod batteries at least so we

should have plenty of voltage and it

should book I actually go as far as to

say I'm confident it will work the

control circuitry in here will limit the

voltage into here to the according

amount and we will certainly I'm sure be

able to charge Bosch cordless 12 volt

batteries from board power well that's
