This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of the buil...

look at these I bought through hulls
which would be the drain through colors
for galley and heads sinks true design
as you can tell made in New Zealand as
you probably know not cheap
well some pizza check the actual
through-hole is is not very expensive at
all unless you're for a while that you
put that obviously a hole through the
hollow answer through hull and port
within show thin that soon when we get
that half this is a load-bearing collar
that simply sits on the inside of the
hull and and spreads the load from at
all and it claims disregards raise it up
to 500 pounds it claims this is the
Seahawk all plastic is a composite
plastic fiber reinforced plastic lovely
lovely
no chance no danger of really trauma sis
going on there really nice seat got
those bits on the market cheaper and
then you've got the option of a strike
or an angled adapter at the moment of
angle one there may need change to a
straight one it also not particularly
sensitive it's all all true design stuff
all from the same manufacturer assembles
all right and it looks very lovely I
think I have a very good reputation
these as you may well know I'm a few
people fearing them that's great so I've
got two of those ready to go I say one
for the galley one for the hates
plus
I'm open the packet things all looks
like this but this if I take that
through higher and there again this is
supposed to fit you've got a couple of
notches on the through hollow there and
obviously you want to stop it turning
when you're fitting it so you push that
in there that's all locates in there and
you can hold the through hard Wiley off
or little tightening up that nut and
also can't fall now when you're done you
just press that it's to in simply press
those doing and then as it comes he says
yes it does so let the tour also
squatching so then do it's three bucks
at things if it makes the job easier
worse for Euro you're gonna set back
together in the box

hello write a speech Pacha I'm Tony
we're building a sailboat as you
probably heard me say before unless
you're new of course and well this week
I'm going to get straight into it this
week because we've done something one of
those things that is a fairly worrying
part of a boat build and you know we
drilled two holes through the hull
possibly below the waterline at all
below the waterline scary business and
fitted through holes into there so
through hulls we fitted are the ones for
the drain for the galley sink and the
head sink they're in there under and one
day I suppose I'll just fitted them you
see one sticking through there at the
moment they just fitted in there
obviously was sick of latest reading on
one eye sealant and then up is just hand
tight we've used these um through design
through holes so that moment nuts hang
tight
we let the sick of flicks set off a bit
inside not the nut a bit although the
directions from true designer the nut
shouldn't be more than 15 pounds feet so
it's not particularly tight a little nip
on the on the nut and then we can fit
that seefox the ball goes on there
that's very wobbly
ya know right Terry
how about stop drilling off

see that so book is very nice by mag
drill 33-millimeter but the hope is
going to be the right diameter for the
through holes first job try I'm gonna
pick it out of here these are supposed
to be great you see apparently it's
gonna go and cut a hole check it fits
over for the through holes first job
also you supposed to you a very little
break out or cut a little bit but it's
pretty clean I suppose good my question
is does that fit through there and
always perfect it's absolutely perfect
beautiful so as as I said very little
break out but I want to have absolutely
no break out so all I want to be able to
do is to drill all from both sides of
the hull I want to be able to drill a
very small hole through to give me the
location and work from both sides at
least a little bit from one side and
then through from the other and the
question now is is whether that little
point there what size of hole locking
jaws does have that still locate without
it wandering around so I'm going to try
now drilling a small hole through that
ply and see how that locates so
interpreter three millimeter first run
the three more holes from de-identify
against the point of that drill and and
it looks like you'll be okay
security guard
[Applause]
suppose it's okay
certainly lined up on pages so it did
locate the point
yeah that's good yesterday look at that
somebody lovely that's right
happy
[Applause]
[Music]
didn't the Golden Sun bud
[Applause]
[Music]
good put the water on and then at home
again and then tape it up and have a
measure what we got that it's all the
way in is it flush there good just
nipping out help
well let's lift out and then if I major
what we've got sticking out we should
have 15 memory has beyond the
nut and we've got more 30 bears I'm
gonna take ten mil off of it so that
they're not all for getting down we're
gonna take us to share the short of it
okay you can pull it out or into the
ship look at that we got 65 milk when
it's tight at least we need say 10 to 12
mil off of that
[Music]
[Music]
it's pretty good that you see that the
weights come off on the nut there's it's
pretty live with a nut there okay and
ideally the offense that spot that spot
wants to be down here to see what me
when I take it off I'm gonna pull it
back in with the glue on if it says that
way around so these these two knobs are
the other way around that knob is there
and that note was there that pencil line
yeah always used to cut them at an angle
and recently I've read somewhere
recently from somebody said if you
present Australian I started doing
Australian and I prefer it
it's amazing that so amazing I'm there I
have the things the tendency to put too
much officers sort of so paranoid about
it leaking in it we're gonna run around
on a yeah
surely no thank you
not much of that can go out with near or
flee if we were only got 20 mil thick
but we all do want to try and see them
as much of the inside of that place but
I'll still have to put it pops you
remember them good something like that
now all you've got they hit their back
through the hole don't know that stuff
okay
oh man I wonder if I should put it more
round there I don't think my sure if I
think it's been squeezed out before mrs.
you can't even see the good oh yes Shh
all right so he's get in position
cuz you little blue thing I've got a
camera I should bring it over yeah good
sir would have been a good idea terribly
get rid of it if you want to go in and
push that breathing
just have to squeeze it and push it
yep lovely hang it perfect okay you've
got pencil I'm down the bottom I should
be good yeah
[Laughter]
we've put them in in a way that we we
believe at least that the born Crocs are
facing the right direction
voila I've read from trip through
designed again you can you can use the
three nine one I as a thread sealant and
put on the thread before you screw the
ballcock from there as soon as the
thread and also allows it because it's
an adhesive sealant it allows you to
position the ballcock some extent
although personally I'd be happier if
the ballcock threaded on tight against
the load-bearing collar and and in the
right position that's the goal that's
what we've tried to do is we want to see
have a successful lens be where we got
to fit the bull salzburg and we did a
dry run and they were in the correct
position with the dry run so hopefully
this you know the thickness of the
sealant isn't can't be very much still
being the correct position but find out
well of an awkward camera angle but it's
the next day now and we're supposed to
to nip up for that not all the true
design through how supposed to be
maximum of fifteen thousand true it's
not very tight so just gonna there are
water pump pliers and put on there give
it a nip then we'll fit the seat box
that is fifteen pounds feet I'm quite
confident so you've got it
the through all of the load-bearing
collar go on there now and the true
design people say we can use that to
nine one six blitz as a thread sealant
so just got to get some of it around
that thread there which I suspect is
going to involve me doing that little
finger
[Music]
yeah but this will work I'll just put
the check back on them get help the
white glove off to try and not cover
myself in super flips right so it's not
look at it there's no hexagonal thing on
there it just goes on behind you brother
things you wear you put a grip on there
turn it yeah yeah yeah that's good
that's good yeah that one could go
loads up just really but it just go
through one the heads okay have a little
look
it's me attempting to illuminate a
through hole in my cupboard right very
good
we let that sit there looking good and
that is it for this week with cracking
on I sin or I've mentioned I think last
time that that get ready to paint the
exterior I've measured up I'm about to
order I think probably by the time you
watch this video I will have ordered the
epoxy barrier coat primer for the
exterior so that's getting very very
fluent and I don't know if you will see
that next video because the video is
always by their nature a few days behind
but very soon when we're painting the
outside at least with bearing a coat
primer which I'm very excited about the
inside is nearing completion thanks for
watching yourself thumbs up subscribe
the boat grill goes on in these strange
times I hope you're well and safe and
