Sailing, solo sailing or sailing with friends, I love it all. I take you for a ride as I sail solo between Tobelo and Morotei. This year I've had lots of vis...

jolly good morning to you all it's quite
cloudy here but it's a beautiful wind
blowing and under sail leaving a fellow
back here I sailed up to dibela
yesterday from me tea got some fresh
vegetables and fruit and stuff like that
and yeah throw up the sail pull up the
anchor and had a bit of a tight fit to
get out of the end of the Anchorage but
now I'm on oh yeah 60 degrees nearly a
beam reach it's going past the last
marker here and now we're gonna turn
north shortly had pretty much downwind
about 35 miles up to Morotai should be
good there's a lot of reefs and stuff
along the way so I'll be zigzagging but
with the wind directly behind me it's
sort of good anyway not about to keep on
a bit of a bit of angle to the wind
instead of running straight downwind and
having to pull things out and stuff yeah
all good I'm going to concentrate on
these reefs for a minute I'll get back
to you soon
yep we've got it under control now wing
on wing pretty much dead downwind
relatively close to silent behind me but
it doesn't really have fringing reef and
there's still a few more islands to
zigzag through but we're nearly out into
the de crossing between halmahera and
more attire now and then it should be
about 20 miles of no reefs to watch out
for hopefully the wind keeps up it seems
to be a bit fluky at the moment we had
two weeks of real strong southerly x'
which is saw in a couple of other videos
getting up to Y a get across to here and
everything but since about three four
days now it's all calmed down again we
just get more um you know a couple of
hours of wind in the morning and then
get all day and then picks up a bit in
the evening and then dead all night
which is sort of the wrong way around
for me I want wind at night so can get
cool breeze to sleep and when through
the middle of the day when it's the
hottest but yeah it's not how it works
okay I'll check back in soon it might be
a bit of a boring day today I don't
really know what to do this video about
to be honest I've normally got a theme
you know climbing the do kono or looking
at the locals making the coconut work
and Metty or you know beautiful wag and
this I don't really know what today is
going to bring big news bad news I'm
still confused there was a little bit of
a rhyme
I managed somehow to lose my new drone
yesterday I feel like a complete idiot
but I don't think it was my fault to be
honest I flew that drones three or four
times and it seemed to work fine but on
this occasion it just I think at least
one of the engines may be to quit and it
just flipped over on its head and hit
the ocean gone so that one yeah after
ten years of flying drones and not
losing a single one I lost two in a
month now pretty expensive hobby if I
keep going at that right and I can't get
another one now because you can't get
them here and I don't have any more
visitors coming so you might have to do
without drone footage
for the next few videos which will be a
big loss because it's just so much nicer
with drone footage imagine the decoder
video without drone footage it would
have just been boring anyway I'll just
muck on through okay so we are sailing
we are sailing along nicely everything's
calm down we're outside the islands now
in the channel the winds a bit more
structured I'd say just six knots ten
knots of wind just slightly after the
beam reach so pretty much perfect could
be going a bit faster but this is fine
actually would be perfect weather for
the sub for the spinnaker today there's
no squalls on the horizon and we'd be
screaming along with that but I can't be
buggered to be honest I haven't put it
up once this season yet but there will
come a time we only have 15 miles to go
so it'll only be yeah a couple of hours
two and a half hours but I think I'm
going to put out the fishing lines
I've still got fish in the freezer but
you know there's always that thought
that we might catch something awesome
probably won't catch anything at all but
give it a try this is the one that's
been catching a few fish lately it's
actually just the homemade job and I
probably need to redo it but it was just
an octopus with a hook and it had a lot
of these yeah octopus tentacles but they
got bitten off quite a different fish so
I made up my own ones out of this rolled
oats packet they don't last quite as
long and yeah I caught a few fish on the
way over here which is sore in their
passage video to tobelo and so I need to
make a new one but I did save a couple
of pieces from the last rolled oats
packet so my corner but I'll throw this
out man we'll see here we go just a hand
line
I'm pretty terrible at fishing to be
honest I don't really enjoy it that's
the thing I enjoy eating fish but yeah I
don't really find it much pleasure and
just trolling the line along and I find
even less pleasure in just dropping a
line over the side when you're at anchor
I find that just to be the most boring
thing in the world but I love
spearfishing there's a lot of it's a bit
of hunting and a lot more skill involved
with that than just you know just buying
your favorite lure and tearing it behind
and hoping hoping if something hits it
but this camera by the way is a little
robot it's no there's not a little
person sitting down there I'm I'm by
myself here yeah let me show it to you
so this is oz bot see when I move it
follows me it's a new camera just came
out I think it hasn't actually reached
the market yet a few early receivers got
it now I've had it for two months now
and I've used it in a few videos in a
couple of you guys have commented on it
which is pretty cool because they just
you know no one noticed it really but
it's pretty cool to have on the boat it
it zooms automatically zooms and follows
me around and it's on a sonic gimbal so
it um you know it's so it's stable it's
pretty cool because it sort of can
follow me around the boat wherever I'm
going did not see what I'm doing sort of
keeps a track of me it's like every
little friend
[Music]
[Applause]
it's my favorite place to sit you know
but on jelly sandwiches
gotta stay here for a while enjoy the
view
I think the wind has just shifted a bit
I need to go and trim the head sail a
little bit but I'll give it a few more
minutes it might might just change back
the sound up here is great just the way
we're cutting through the water steps
the waves it's amazing so nice up here
[Applause]
[Applause]
approaching de Reuben now that's the
southernmost town on the island of Mora
tie there's some little islands
appearing getting back into the reefs in
little areas but still sailing we're on
in five knots it's a bit of a current
against it's actually that - not current
but yep coming in this sort of a ship
coming out I should show you this one
it's quite a fancy looking ship it
doesn't look like in a trading ship from
here
but it's quite quite classic here he was
on a different course and he just he
just folded course and it's just
crossing over in front of me like you
know he's in the wrong even if I wasn't
sailing just as a boat but I've heard
that quite a few times bigger boats they
I mean they always have captains but I
don't think they go to the same shipping
school they don't know the rules in the
right of way like if I don't adjust
course we would hit this guy and I was
in the right lane and I'm under sail and
it's not a you know it's just a pleasure
craft or a small ferry but they don't
see it that way so you really got to be
careful with you can't trust that they
know the rules here because they're not
going to get out of the way I had one
dive boat over and over and raise your
arm pup they just kept coming they just
kept coming and there was three guys
watching me and they just kept coming
and if I hadn't had done a sharp tack in
the end they would have just hit me and
I waved and shouted and they just wave
back like saying hello just funny for
them yeah you can't trust you can't
trust it the people here know the rules
and the other thing is that seems like
they want to get close to to see your
sailing or whatever it is but it's not
cool at all it's not cool
ya see and now that he crossed in front
of me he's going to cross back behind me
again so basically us did a loop around
me like going on the wrong side of me
confusing what any sailor would normally
think of boats gonna do you know who's
going to cross back behind me classic
you wouldn't wanna hit that guy here's
some other guys you got to watch you up
for I just tied up to a little mooring
boy here which is cool it's just a bit
tough at night you don't see them but
I'm doing the day it's fine just have to
keep your eyes open which is normal yeah
we're arriving in Dubai soon about five
minutes ago I was just about to pull the
sails down turn the engine on because
we're only doing two knots we out of out
of wind but just picked up again
that doing six nuts again perfectly calm
like in a lake and yeah nice way to
arrive just a couple more little reefs
after zigzag through and then I'll pull
up here for the night
anchor I got no idea what this towns
like I think it's pretty small and
pretty you know pretty dusty there might
not be much here but we'll see who knows
anyway at least we've got some wind to
finish this little day's journey off you
looking forward to checking this place
out okay we're getting close now time to
prepare for arrival
I'll get the fishing lines install that
away clean up everything fill the jib up
and turn it to the one get the mainsail
down and then we should be good to find
a spot to anchor don't try and make
y'all comfortable
for the record you in truck rolled and
stopped with you for the Brecon lab on
me going on away for the record ain't
wrong link notes on relations
[Music]
get out pricing your snake guys with
dates for your children so ice to yours
hey I'm gonna
[Music]
I still want to add not to coast
water running don't try and make you a
nice rock rolling stopping for a run lab
on me going on way a trial a no china
wish this looks like as good a place as
any
we're in ten meters of water it's low
tide right now so should be safe think
I'll put down the anchor right here
maybe if it gets too noisy some of these
towns with the the Muslim towns they
they get a bit over the top sometimes
with the church music so I might move
but I think it's only 20 meters out
there so I can move it further away if
it gets too loud
[Music]
reckon I still count wince when they
take advantage of 20 meters let that
settle for a second and then let out a
couple more up to 10 meters each
think of sandy bottom here so it should
be safe yes further the anchor well
smells of Earth yeah Egyptian night
workers between the leg spots
I was anchored for two weeks outside
Metis cottage and I guess there was a
lot of eggs from different sorts of sea
animals that attach themself to the
change and now they've been in there the
whole day cooking hot and it is a stench
coming out of there I'll throw some
buckets of water down there now clean it
out a little bit hello lovely people
this is another episode done I have
literally just finished with the editing
I'll put in this last clip now after
this you'll see it's been a very much
more simple video than the last three
have been and I thought it was good to
do that the last three were quite
intensive a lot of film clips and a lot
of editing a lot of adventure stuff but
not much sailing and to be honest a lot
of work in it this this one here is much
more simple one it was just a lot of
dialogue and talking and I could just
sort of put them all together sorry if
you think that's a lot of effort on my
part I just need to do that every now
and again otherwise I'm sitting here
instead of being outside where I want to
be but anyway I hope you don't find this
one too boring it's just a little bit of
a look into my life sailing across the
bay talking bit of about what I
do sitting on the paper by myself all
day
it's fina cool so far this season I've
actually had people with me pretty much
the whole season so this is nearly the
first time I'm alone Toby left
about a week ago he stayed nearly five
weeks and it was great to have him on
board but um yeah I'm looking forward to
sparing this next few Wow next couple of
months now alone actually exploring
around I'll take you with me on that I
don't have any plans actually what I'm
going to film for the next times this is
the last video you know I'm just up to
date no no but I'm sure I'll stumble
across some cool things to do I always
seem to seem to manage to do that just
talking some locals necessarily you
should check out this well you should go
there or whatever so I'll figure it out
I don't have a drone and I won't for the
next foreseeable future until I go back
to Europe so yeah it'll be just me with
no plan and no drone but I'm sure I'll
bug you something up that you guys will
find interesting yeah thanks again my
patrons and all new ones that came
onboard thank you obviously just to all
you viewers that are watching and
commenting liking it please consider
sharing this video or other ones you've
watched with any friends that you think
might be interested in this and that
helps me a lot
and ya know I will just continue making
these videos and you see here we go I've
still got a couple of months on the boat
before I head back to winter but um I'm
loving it loving life okay thanks very
much and see you two weeks
