good morning to you all coming to you
with the learning by doing episode this
week from
the town of calabah on the island of the
law
as you've seen in the previous videos
we've come down south from raja umpire
through ambon a couple of rough passages
and yeah we've been down here a couple
of days now
a little bit of a cold and just sitting
on the boat
getting some work done and uh today is
the day that we're going to
go and explore a little bit the region
around here and
yeah we're just getting ready i've
rented a motorbike it's waiting over
there on the beach
and we're just packing up our bags and
we'll cruise over there and
go and see what this place has to offer
come along for the journey
[Music]
okay let's go
[Music]
there's a little beast for the day
bye-bye for 24 hours
i paid a hundred and fifty
repair which is about eight euros
something like that it's a little bit
much
a little bit more than some places you
pay but here's what it is still pretty
cheap
a big town though yeah
thank you
oh yeah
this
we've climbed up this hill on the little
motorbike it's a bit of a
bit of a sketchy road but all good and
there this is takpala
traditional little village up in here so
we're gonna go and check that out
[Music]
a traditional village and they have
their own language and everything up
there
and it's a lot like uh old villagers
everywhere in the world
there's only seven families remaining up
here
because yeah it's hard to make money
obviously and uh
but yeah they've been
giving us some coffee and local
cigarettes and
now marie's going to buy a few of their
homemade things here
pretty pretty cool place but yeah marie
forgot to bring her wallet so
it's uh she's going to have to do the
dishes or
clean something or maybe babysit anyway
elijah
hmm
you have to ask how much there
but first don't know how to say how much
babe you haven't got any money
you're gonna have to do the dishes
100.
[Music]
this your father
you could fit two people in there
oh crazy flower yeah it looks already a
little bit dry when it's
on the flame it's crazy
so in south faye in switzerland where i
go snowboarding they have old
storage huts for hay and things they use
the same system but they use rocks
and here they use big slabs of round
wood
to stop the rats climbing up into into
the main place where they keep their
corn and cassava and all that sort of
stuff
okay go kill the chicken
i don't want to kill anything you need
big muscles
you're not a very good hunter you'd be
hungry
[Music]
oh
[Music]
so i've got the drone up in the air and
uh
super scary i'll tell you the story so
i've been on
apple iphone since the very first one
came out i bought it in lake tahoe
somewhere in fact
whenever it came out it got water in my
phone on the passage over to
here to a law and obviously in this
around here they don't sell any apple
products no one can afford them
so i just bought a samsung that i looked
on the dji website
uh it should work for this drone i just
basically wanted to have a phone so i
could
fly my drone and uh so i'm flying it the
first time with this and it works
but it's this is the best samsung i
could buy here it's a s20a
it came out last year it should be quite
good but the technology in it i think is
more than 10 years old it's
super so when i fly you can't
really see it on the screen but
it's like a three or four second delay
of
of the like processing power of this
phone
so you go close to a tree and you know
the drone was already there five minutes
before you were close to it it's so
dangerous
so yeah some of this drone footage in
the next few videos until i can get to
bali and buy an apple
it might be a bit not quite as good as i
normally do just because i can't take
risks at the moment because
really i can't really control this drone
very well
it's like such a delay it's pretty
frustrating
anyway i'm coming into land now i'll see
if i can not crash
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
[Music]
so we're on this little canoe now we're
going out to see a dugong apparently
have you seen a dugong before
i look like a grey pig that swims
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
attracted by the boat like any time you
turn on the engine it's coming
you want to play and grab the boat
[Music]
as soon as you turn the engine on he
sort of comes and
i don't know like attacks the boat but
he seems to be really
excited by the bubbles maybe or the
engine sound of the propeller
and so we're trying to go back now but
we can't actually leave because as soon
as we turn the engine off
he comes and attacks the boat again and
he swims alongside and says hello and
spits on you a couple of times and then
yeah we wait a few minutes to go
and then he turned the engine on and
probably straight back again it's pretty
cool though
[Music]
[Music]
so
so it was a pretty cool experience huh
yeah yeah yeah super pleasing
but you know like one one thing you have
to say
when we came in the gate we paid ten
thousand
and we thought oh that's really cheap
and oh you know you can go and see the
dugong we're like well that's super
cheap
so we went out there and we were both
talking like
oh that was super cheap but this is such
a cool experience for that and then we
come back in
and the boat guy's like oh money money
and i'm like
okay yeah yeah okay how much and he's
like 500
000 which is like 50 australian bucks
somebody the price because like for the
experience 50 bucks is all right 25
each but the fact that here it's a lot
of money
you know that's a whole week's wages for
that guy or for any guy
and the fact that they don't tell you in
advance you know they just take you out
thinking that
you know this is how much you're going
to pay and then it's like okay well that
was just the entry to
go yeah so awesome experience
but a little bit of a sour taste in the
mouth at the end of it eh
yeah no it's not really fair like
even like at the beginning if i know the
the price i'm okay to pay because it was
like super good we stayed one hour with
the dugong
but just like it's sneaky to not seeing
the price at the beginning
yeah so yeah cool um experience and if
you come to a law
i would recommend actually going to see
this dugong's freaking awesome
but just be aware that there are
yeah you have to pay twice and the
second time is a lot more
anyway all good
[Music]
pretty cool this is the bay we came in
we sailed up this field here
and yeah we're anchored over there
pretty sweet spot just in this little
lookout tower here at the end of the day
pretty awesome
anyway we hope you enjoyed that video um
pretty cool to discover stuff on land
again after sort of being stuck on the
boat for the last three four months but
um
really cool a lot of nice people here
cool experiences a totally different
landscape
and environment and
humidity is way less than raja ampat and
more comfortable and nice to sleep at
night with a bit of cool breeze and
yeah beautiful we're having a real good
time murray and i
yeah just want to say thanks to the
patrons again the new ones that have
jumped on board
thank you so much for supporting this
little journey that we're on
hope you'll enjoy the coming episodes
and yeah see you next week we might
still be here
we love it that much bye-bye
