We love to sail! As often as possible and we also hate to use the motor. On a small boat the engine is not way down below deck and silent, its a hot noisy beast that make tropical days nearly unbearable. Luckily we have a boat that is light and fast so that we can sail even in very light air. Sometimes its just faster to motor in a straight line if the wind is not co-operating but sometimes its just fun to tack up against the wind, its good practise, you use no fuel and you're using the boat for what it was made for.
We're in Papua again, arriving in Triton Bay, a place neither of us have been before and we get right into exploring the place on our paddle boards.

Welcome back guys, in this video we celebrate our friend Kristy's 30th birthday in a
0:13
magical location, we explore a hidden lake on our paddleboards and yeah there is some
0:18
sailing we tack zigzag this way and that way up a narrow channel against the wind. Enjoy!
0:37
You, back on the paddleboards in triton bay. We've only been here a couple of days but it's just
0:43
fantastic so far absolutely it's just stunning water the birds the little islands everywhere
0:52
see shahelian anchored out the back there and we're just going into this big waterway here
0:58
little beaches everywhere marie there paddling like a pro
1:23
foreign
1:26
you happy to be back oh yeah i'm super happy i suppose it depends of people and some women are
1:34
gonna probably live that differently but for me rajan pat and this pipe one side without a lot of
1:42
people is being more independent like i can wear what i want i can go by myself with the paddle or
1:50
with the dinghy and i don't have to deal with any authorities or with the people who are watching
1:57
me and maybe i am in muslim town and i i have to cover myself more and yeah i feel a bit more free
2:27
so
2:44
coconut a day keeps the doctor away
2:57
super nice here pretty nice view probably one of the best you can have on the beach
3:11
and we had a pancake breakfast with
3:22
and we had she made a yesterday like a stew compote out of jumbo
3:33
an apple but probably only one of those fruits you guys know but the other two are pretty awesome and
3:38
cinnamon local actual real cinnamon from banda wood in indonesia it's called kaiyou manus
3:47
which means sweet wood yeah that's why i have my coffee every day too now yep pretty awesome
3:53
life's good guys life is good look at this do a quick 360. okay do even quicker 360.
4:07
that's enough 360s well i think i've spotted an entrance to a hung hey come and check it out
4:15
check this out we're going to go and look in there
4:22
it's one of these sort of lakes inside with a hidden entrance go and sneak in there
4:53
oh look at this
5:18
cool we have to make sure we get out before the tide
5:22
comes in though because that was like low tide wow
5:35
well it's huge in here completely calm this is the only entrance
5:40
and uh it's just completely calm like a lake in here there's a deep spot over there but there's
5:45
fish everywhere in here it's amazing wow it's so cool to find stuff like this like you really
5:51
can have the feeling that no one's ever been here that's the sort of thing you know it's
5:55
the reason why i got the boat to have these sort of experiences probably people have been here but
6:00
who knows if you go past high tide you'll never see it um i get obviously the locals probably
6:05
know about it the fishermen around here but maybe there's no sailor's been here before who knows
6:14
oh look turtle turtle
6:24
wow that's incredible there's a paradise in here these paddle boards from indiana
6:31
are just perfect for this sort of thing so we haven't used them too much this year just because
6:36
we've been sort of more in places that aren't like this but around here and in raja ampat
6:43
they're so good for for exactly this you move slow in the dinghy just ripping around
6:48
looking for stuff and you know just sort of headless chicken sort of style
6:53
and it's cool because you cover a lot of ground you can go on big missions and you know carry a
6:56
lot of gear with you but the paddle boards you're forced to slow down a bit and it's quiet so you
7:02
hear the birds and you see the fish because they don't really get spooked by the engine
7:07
and for example here we couldn't have gotten here with the dinghy we would have had to leave it
7:11
outside and swim in and then it would have been half as fun so these these paddle boards are so
7:15
good around here we'll just keep them pumped up and tie them off the edge of the lifelines and
7:20
uh just ready to go at all times and we sort of use them more than the dinghy now at this time
7:26
thanks uh indiana for those of you who want to get one especially in europe
7:30
hit me up actually in the description below there's a discount code i can get you 20 off
7:35
these ones and i think shipping might even be free but yeah they're well worth it they're not
7:39
some chinese rubbish ones these ones last years and years you know like uh these are just out
7:44
in the sun all the time and you can't even tell they still look brand new after i've had them for
7:48
a year now and they still look brand new never had a hole in them we use them all the time i
7:52
can vouch for them strongly looks like there's another hole straight ahead of us it's just
7:58
branching out into another little extra secret pocket yeah can we go check it out extra secret
8:06
fish wow this is stunning look at all this moss here and the orchids
8:17
you see the purple orchids up in there wow look at the fish
8:24
what this is crazy
8:29
yeah look at these little baby fish here
8:36
this is just like paradise on earth basically can't really get more paradilic wow look at it
8:47
just palm trees all around i'm completely blown away by this place this is one of the more well
8:58
it's a little bird for a big noise well as i was saying before i was rudely interrupted by a bloody
9:05
little bird no this place is just incredible blowing me away like i've seen some pretty
9:12
amazing things but this is and yeah unexpected that i guess that's the main part it's not on the
9:18
you know there's no like tourist guide for this place it's just incredible here huh yeah we're
9:26
going to go and watch a jellyfish now apparently come with us on this jellyfish adventure
9:35
okay now we dive below the depths to take a closer look
9:49
they call that hidden lagoon jelly
10:11
no
10:14
no man overboard i think it's really recent that you can get in here this
10:19
this rock here just fell off so after a few awesome days down in that anchorage
10:25
we decided to sail about 10 miles north to some spots that we saw on the satellite images
10:31
we were looking for a nice quiet beach area where we could um celebrate our friend's birthday the
10:36
wind was straight on the nose down the channel but instead of motoring up we decided to sail up
10:42
it just meant attacking six or seven times from you know zigzagging up the whole channel
10:47
we didn't get there much after the other guys who just motored straight up and
10:50
yeah it was cool we didn't use any fuel and had a real fun time actually it was a cool little sale
12:00
what happened so i cut it on the rocks when i was filling up the gallon of water in the waterhole
12:25
filthy boat bloody mould grows so fast here if it rains then like two days later you just get this
12:32
black growth look at it check this out when i wash it i'm gonna scrub it look at all this black filth
12:39
that comes off disgusting mind you i haven't actually cleaned it for about two months now
12:48
but yeah sailing up wind taking up a channel seemed like a good moment
12:55
better keep busy there's a few fishing boats here as well watch out for them
12:59
look at that back in brand new
13:05
well brand new 20 years old but much better
13:15
i have to get dave the trimmer to make me some new
13:17
covers when we finally get back to brisbane one day
13:35
oh we're nearly there we've done about eight miles of i think we did seven eight tanks maybe
13:40
but uh it's been quite nice
13:43
the wind is sort of veered each time so you can do attack and then keep pulling up
13:47
keep pulling up so they're still not square tanks they end off rounding up and pretty fun we'll try
13:53
and find an anchorage here there's quite a lot of coral around but uh got time to drop the sails now
14:07
so
14:27
pull up into the wind
14:46
and drop them
15:04
i've just chopped anchor beautiful spot wind's blowing a little bit in here but it's uh
15:10
sort of a lee shore but not really the wind's just wrapping around it's actually coming from
15:14
the north and it's wrapping around to be blowing in here but we should be fine look at this spot
15:38
they've got a little fender in the water just up there the fender is tied to the rollover bar on
15:44
my anchor just if we get caught on any coral or rocks or ropes or whatever there's a lot of stuff
15:51
in the anchorages here so that way we can pull it up backwards you know instead of trying to
15:55
pull it up by its shank which just often wedges it in more pulling it up by its rollover bar
16:00
it's just like basically reversing a car out of a parking spot so that's uh what i do a lot of times
16:08
here i'll show you our um our route for today yeah so this is our route for today
16:16
we started down in here motor around the point and then you're zig-zagged up and uh it was
16:23
quite pleasant there was no world beating speed or anything but it was quite nice and we didn't
16:29
use the engine awesome it was a good day and now we'll probably uh wait for this wind to die down a
16:35
little bit and then get in the dinghy and go and explore some of these little nooks and crannies
16:40
so i just jumped in the dinghy to go for a bit of explore in our new surroundings look at this place
16:49
perfect little sand beach those coconut trees
16:52
were planted by a structural engineer to be the perfect distance for a hammock
16:57
i can just see it now and look to spin around there's there was square anchor right there
17:05
what an awesome spot
18:05
we don't do a lot of social live stuff because because of covert we don't see any boats and um
18:10
we prefer to be away from people a lot but anyway we've been traveling the last couple
18:13
of days with um greg and kik who you've seen in a couple of videos and now um
18:18
dave and christy they just arrived in indonesia they sailed up from
18:23
uh yeah and the east coast of australia sailed up through there and they got to tual we met them
18:27
there and then they're here with us and yesterday was dave's 35th birthday and today is kirsty's
18:33
30th birthday so we've been having a few drinks on their boat this morning and now we're going
18:37
to this beautiful little beach we've set up a camp we're going to go and send it have a nice little
18:42
uh party with six people around the fire tonight and hope it doesn't rain it's gonna be a good one
19:08
on the beach you guys live here
19:22
i know buddy i know but we're only going to be here a few hours
19:29
we'll just take photos and leave footprints that's all
19:36

19:40
oh thanks mate thanks mate tell all your buddies
